Week 9 Final Score Winner

We have a final winner for week 9 of The "FINAL" Score game! The first winner gave a bad email address so I guess they lose out since I got no other way of contacting them.

Congrats to George Fennel!!

A big thanks to everyone who played this season and helped make our little game here a success. And again to Subway for providing the prizes. I'm already working on next seasons prize, or multiple prizes, stay tuned!

"We'll be Back!"

I got bad news and good news, the bad news? Jeannette will miss the playoffs for the first time in fifteen years. The good news?.. David Miller is a senior.

I don't know about you guys, but my Jayhawk cup is half full, It always is! And Coach Hall confirmed that with the last three words of his post game interview last night, those three words?... "we'll be back"

There were two classy moves last night I'd like to bring to your attention incase you didn't see them, the first being coach Hall inserting the young guns acknowledging the teams defeat, and if you guys seen what I did, you should have come away with a good glimpse of what next season holds in store.

The second most classy move I've ever seen was the band playing in front of the Jayhawks locker room at the end of the game. One grade A class act, no doubt!!

So yes for the first time in fifteen years, the Jayhawks will miss the playoffs, mostly due in part to David Miller who rushed for 344 yards and five touchdowns in a 49-18 win over the Hawks. But lets face it folks fifteen years of post season play, (although it's something that only a Jayhawk can say they accomplished), was bound to come to an end at some point. Always fun starting a new one though!

And you also got to realize that we were beat by a better team, and that's as simple as it was. But like coach Hall said, and like my half full Jayhawk cup suggest, "we'll be back!"

A small note to leave you with: GCC has never been able to lay claim to a WPIAL or PIAA championship in the schools history (even with GOD on their side!).

Photos from the game can be seen here.

Midget Football Concludes in Jeannette

IMG_0118
Celebrating senior night on the opposing teams field, didn’t affect the performance displayed by the Jeannette seniors as they cruised to an easy 20-0 shutout of Penn Trafford Warriors while gaining something to build on for next season.

Sunday’s meaningless match up, was a make-up game from September 26. A similar scenario forced Sunday’s game to be played at Penn Trafford to accommodate the schedule, and to avoid a forfeit for the teams, instead of at McKee Stadium where it was originally scheduled for.

Senior Zack Alteri ignited the Hawks with an 85 yard touchdown run in the first half to take an early 8-0 lead. It was all Jeannette’s defense after that, holding Penn Trafford scoreless for all four periods.

Zack would eventually find pay dirt again in the second half off a blocked punt tipped back into his own hands, which he returned 33 yards for his second touchdown of the night. Then with less than three minutes left in the game, senior Mike Edwards would intercept a PT pass and return it 15 yards for the final Jeannette score.

The Hawks finish the season with a 1-8 record, but responded with some promising looks for next season.

The Blue Jays rolled to a 24-12 win with no playoff implications on their part either, but did manage to knock Penn Trafford’s 115lb team out of the playoff picture, while finishing the season with a 5-4 record.

The Eagles were not as successful against Penn Trafford dropping to a 2-7 record to finish the season, with a 36-0 loss.

Photos from the game, (Hawks only, sorry) can be seen right here.

I think it's time for an update on the new weightroom.

Week 9 Final Score Game

Sorry for the delay in the FINAL Score game, but as you can see it is now there.

I need you guys to really think about your guess this time, I'm tired of not having a winner here, plus Subway is getting off "scott-free", lol!

Last week did not produce a winner, as a matter of fact there was only one guess for Jeannette to get a zero, but the Mt. Pleasant score was way off the charts.

So put on your thinking caps and good luck!!

How 'bout some early B-Ball action?

The Lady Jays basketball team participated in the Bethel Park Shootout Tournament yesterday coming away with two victories and dropping the third game by just two buckets.

First getting a little revenge against Our Lady of Sacred Heart from last years 60-46 loss in the quarterfinals, with a 53-26 stomping.

And in the second game squeaking by Holidaysburg with a 35-34 final, and then unfortunately dropping the last of the three games to Bishop Canevin by a final of 32-28.

Midget league game moved to PT

The Jeannette Midget Football program will play their last game tomorrow against Penn Trafford at Penn Trafford's facility.

This was originally scheduled as a home game at McKee Stadium to celebrate senior night, but from what I was told, it was changed by the Jeannette school board in order to preserve the field for the GCC game on Friday.

So now I guess the Jeannette seniors will have to celebrate their graduation on Penn Trafford's field?

WOW, I hope that makes sense to you. Anyway the games will start at 12:00.

Congrats to Jordan Hall!!

A GIGANTIC congrats out to Jordan Hall. Jordan scored his first collegiate touchdown today from 11 yards out against Minnesota.

"Jordan's been impressive ever since he's been here," Coach Jim Tressel said. "He's a hard-nosed kid, studies the game, has done well running the football every chance he's gotten, so now that we've seen him in a game, obviously it makes it easier to put him into a game ... he's going to be a good player.

"He's tough — oh, he's a tough kid."

Win or lose, we still love ya!

Things are a little out of focus for the Jeannette Jayhawks. Losing their second game in a row, first to surprising Washington Prexies and the second last evening, falling 13-0 to undefeated and now conference champions, Mt. Pleasant Vikings.

Held to just 109 yards of offense and scoreless for the entire contest, the Jayhawks now face missing the playoffs, for the first time in fifteen years. A current WPIAL record, needless to say.

If this should happen, (and there is still a chance that it won't, I'll get to that in a moment) it won't be because the team didn't give 100 percent, and it won't be that the coaching staff was at fault either. It's too easy to lay blame in these two areas, without really looking into the problem, and I hope that you are not foolish enough to make that judgment on this team or the coaching staff. Trust me, you don't know a smidgen of the sacrifice these kids put in to play Jayhawk football.

If you are quick to judge like that, then you are also probably one of the embarrassing fans that leaves the stands when your team is losing, in which case you were never really a true Jayhawk fan at all.

No, if this happens it will be because of the season long adversity that the Jayhawks have been forced to deal with. The biggest of these being the list of injured starters.

Now of course this doesn't mean that the back ups didn't give it their all either, no, in fact they are the ones who helped make this the exciting season that it is. Let's face it, if a 5-3 record can still bring this much excitement every Friday night, I'll take it every season!

So whether you win or lose on Friday against GCC, remember that you still provided a very exciting and interesting season for your true fans!

To the best of my knowledge, Jeannette can still see post season action with a win over GCC, and a Charleroi loss to Mt. Pleasant.

Photos from the Mt. Pleasant game can be seen here.

Pink Out High School Football Night

Congrats to Mt. Pleasant

Congratulations to the Mt Pleasant Vikings on a 13-0 win over Jeannette to capture the Interstate Conference Championship.

You guys played a great game and you definitely earned that win.

Congratulations!!

Jayhawks to be on FSN Trib Total Media

If you plan on tuning into FSN Pittsburgh (channel 29) tonight to watch the Fox Chapel - Penn Hills game tune in a little early, like at 6:30 to catch the Trib Total Media High School Edition.

FSN is doing a piece on Jeannette and to the best of my knowledge, it will either air tonight or on next weeks show.

FSN also does the show after the game, so if you miss the one you can always catch the other.

Blue Jays were robbed

Down 16-12 in a must win situation to see post season play, the Blue Jays with 53 seconds remaining in the game and no timeouts left, opened their desperation drive with this play:

I can't say for sure that the Blue Jays would have scored in the next couple plays, but I know for a fact that the momentum was on their side. These kids played too hard all season long to have it all ripped out from under them like this.

Shame on you Mr. Official, Shame on you.

Hawks will have to rebound, yet again

Injuries have haunted the Jayhawks since day one of training camp and have continued to do so through out the season.

Senior center Trevor Petrillo being the first one and now most recently, linemen Dezon Hall (6'3" 220lbs) and Sammy Moore (6'2" 256lbs) who both had to watch helplessly from the sidelines as the Washington Prexies wasted no time in taking advantage of this. Exploiting holes up the middle and on three different QB sneaks for touchdowns including one late in the fourth qtr. to take an 18-16 lead with only 40.4 seconds left in the game.

A fourth down Jeannette desperation pass was picked off and returned to the house for the last Washington touchdown with 14 seconds left to bring the final to 24-16.

With this loss and the McGuffey win last night, the Interstate conference has taken on a whole new look. Five teams with 5-2 records, are fighting for a playoff spot and a possible chunk of the conference championship. And although Mt. Pleasant sits on top with a 7-0 record, there is nothing etched in stone that I seen anywhere, that implies that they'll remain undefeated, and sole champions of the conference.

Jeannette will face by far, one of their toughest opponents next week at Mt. Pleasant, but with the way that the Interstate conference has been going this season, anything can happen. Mt. Pleasant who won at South Allegheny (0-7) last night by a final of 20-0, struggled for the most part in doing so.

So I guess in order to stay alive in the conference, Jeannette will have to pull together, rebound yet again, and play as a complete team, on both sides of the ball, till the last tick of the clock.

The Terrelle Pryor and Jordan Hall days, as fun as they were, are over and there is no single superstar who can pull us out of a hole anymore.

But, I can name 11 current Jayhawks that can!!

Photos from the Wash game can be seen here, videos to follow soon.

The FINAL Score - Week 7 Winner

Well the Washington Prexies will be happy to know that they have a fan down the road from Jeannette in North Huntington.

Congrats to week seven's FINAL Score winner, Peg.

Memorable Night for Soccer Seniors

If there is one thing that I've witnessed, time and time again, it's that Jeannette teams simply have no quit in them. From the midget teams right up to the varsity teams. In any Jeannette sport, boys or girls.

Tonight it was the Lady Jays soccer team, on senior night. And the three departing seniors made sure that it would always remain a fond memory in their minds.

Senior Kelsie Severini set the pace of the game with the opening goal at 4:20 into the first half. Outstanding goal keeping from senior Samantha Linsenbigler kept visiting Geibel off the board through out the first half.

But an easy night was not in store for the Lady Jays. Geibel would score two straight goals in the opening ticks of the second half to take a 2-1 lead. The first off the rebound from a direct kick that landed on the cross bar, and the second, a controversial goal, so controversial that it got head coach Lou Conte red carded from the game.

Determined not to let this one slip away, senior captain/mid fielder Jessica Soles found the back of the goal just three minutes later to tie the score at two a piece.

Then with 10:46 left in the half, freshmen Sydney Pecorrero scored the go ahead goal to lift the Lady Jays over Geibel by a final of 3-2.

With no playoff implications on the line, the Lady Jays with a 5-4-1 record will visit GCC on Monday and St. Joes next Wednesday to finish out the season. Geibel with a 8-3 section record will see some post season play, but will have to face Mt. Pleasant prior to that.

Best of luck to our seniors in whatever you pursue in life!

Midget League Results from Woodland Hills

In Midget Football Saturday, Jeannette traveled to Woodland Hills and here's the results from the Wolvarena:
  • Blue Jays win - 14-0
  • Eagles win - 22-20
  • Hawks lose - 30-14
This Saturday Jeannette will host the new comers to the Keystone Bantam League, Steel Valley. Games start at 5:00.

Jayhawks, they're exactly who I thought they were

Yeah that's right McGuffey, Jeannette's loss to Charleroi was indeed a fluke. And did you honestly believe that you were going to hand Jeannette two straight losses?, at home? Pa..Leeees!

Coach Hall stated in an earlier interview, "The true mark of a team is how you respond after a loss, and we will now have a chance to see what we are made of."

That chance was last night, and the response was off the charts.

Conditions at McKee Stadium were just like last week, the only difference is that the weather wasn't tearing up the field as bad as Toddy Harris was. Toddy handled the ball 20 times for 187 yards and two touchdowns in a 22-8 romp of McGuffey to knock them down into a three way tie for third place with GCC and Washington. Jeannette travels to Washington next Friday while McGuffey heads into Charleroi.

Photos from the game can be seen here, and a compilation of video clips from the game, can be seen right here.

Lady Jays look to extend winning streak

With a recent 2-1 overtime win against Monesson, (goals from Delaney Cortazzo and Sydney Pecoraro) and another 2-1 recent win against Serra Catholic (goals from Emily Danko and Megan Parker) the Lady Jays soccer team has improved their record to 4-3-1 in conference play and 6-5-2 overall.

Back on September 30, Symone Clarkson scored a hat trick to lift the Lady Jays over visiting East Allegheny by a final of 3-1. Sorry I missed that one Symone!

The girls travel to Shady Side Academy tonight for a 7:00 start, and hope to add to this three game winning streak.

Correction on decade losses

After meticulous and exhaustive research, (not on my part, but by the contributor of this info), it has come to be determined that the Jayhawks have only lost four(4) home games in this decade and not five(5) as previously mentioned in the paper and on this site.

The four losses are from East Allegheny in 2000 and EA again in 2004. The GCC loss in 2005 and the most recent, Charleroi last week.

If anyone feels this is wrong and can actually prove so, please shoot me an email jeannettejayhawksblog@gmail.com with the details.

Birthday Boy takes Colts for a ride

IMG_0020
Robert Kennedy #3 of the Blue Jays celebrated his birthday yesterday with a stiff arm to this Plum defender, a 55 yard TD pass from Trey Cunningham, a 53 yard TD pass to Trey Cunningham (which was called back on a penalty), and a 96 yard INT. returned to the 2 yard line to set up Trey for a 5 yard TD run, to help lift his Blue Jays to a 26-6 win over the visiting Plum Colts

Happy Birthday young man!!

Unfortunately the Eagles and Hawks didn't attend the same party. Eagles lose to the Stallions by a final of 22-6 and the Hawks could only register 6 points to the Mustangs 34.

Jeannette travels to the Wolvarena next Saturday to play Woodland Hills for a 3:00 start.

Photos from yesterdays match up can be seen right here.

Charleroi Media is Online

Since it took me so long to get everything uploaded, I figured I'd wait and pile it all on you guys at once, so here it goes.

Photos from the Charleroi game can be seen right here. A video compilation of some of the plays from that game can also be seen here. And yeah, I got the 4th quarter impressive drive on video also, (you'd almost think I knew the Hawks were gonna do that drive, huh?), you can check it out play by play right here.

The "FINAL" Score game actually did not produce a winner, out of 60 guesses only 3 were for Charleroi to win. One of those three were way off and the other 2 guesses just missed by 2 points and by 5 points. I will follow up on this and what we're going to do with it shortly. I'm thinking of carrying it over to this Fridays game.

Jayhawks suffer 5th loss in a decade

Sorry for the delay guys, I had to work at my other job early this morning, and sleep last night was a must.

So anyway, here we are and as you already know, the Cougars clawed away at our Jayhawks last night by a final of 26-20 in a thriller that went all the way down to the wire.

Charleroi running back, Quentin Briggs was able to break down the Jayhawks defense and finished the night with 175 yards on 32 carries and 2 touchdowns, while knocking Jeannette out of the top spot and into a three-way tie for second place with Charleroi and McGuffey. Mt Pleasant now sits alone in the top spot with a 5-0 record.

The Hawks will have no choice but to recoup from this loss as the schedule only gets tougher for them with McGuffey visiting town next Friday for homecoming, a quick trip to Washington the following week and then back to back tough games again at Mt. Pleasant and at home against GCC to finish out the regular season. (not that we'll be taking Washington lightly either, I'm sure)

I'd like to point out some of the better things that happened last night, I guess it's just the way I look at things.
  • Briggs struggled up the middle for the most part, the majority of his yardage came from the outside on those @#*^% sweeps
  • Toddy Harris can jump over the offensive line, just like Terrelle did
  • The young freshmen Jordan Edmunds was able to score from 18 yards out with no problems
  • Chad Foster can really jump high in the end zone! (and come down with the ball for a TD too)
  • And my favorite one of all, senior QB Tom Paulone and the offense orchestrated one of the most impressive drives I've ever seen in high school football of 69 yards with NO timeouts and a measly 1:42 left on the clock. And although it ended with the clock running out, and Jeannette just 11 yards from tying the game, Charleroi was sweating bullets for that entire time, and they know how close Jeannette came, believe me!
  • There is NO quit, in the Jayhawks!
