Waynesburg Media Uploaded

For your viewing pleasure, I have uploaded media content from the 48-6 win over Waynesburg last evening.

Photos from the game can be found right here on Hawkmedia.

A great collection of video quick clips from the game can also be found over there, by clicking right here.

The Jayhawks JV team also pulled out a hugh win today, by shutting out the JV of Waynesburg with a final of 40-0. Sorry, no photos or video available from that contest.

Move or get ran over!

The "FINAL" Score - Week 4 Winner

The Jayhawks separated themselves from Waynesburg with a final score of 48-6. It was a lot tighter in The "FINAL" Score game. We had 2 entries with the same guess, however Rich Highlands Jr. got his in first and is crowned the week 4 winner.

Congrats Rich!

To the other entries that were close, and there were a lot, keep trying and be thankful you wasn't the guy who guessed this score, 48-7! How bout it Cam? LOL!

Look for week 5, Charleroi game, to start on Sunday! Good Luck!

Fall League prepares Lady Jays for 2009/2010 season

I'm gonna take your mind off of football for a minute, (just for a minute, don't worry) and focus it on girls basketball. A little preseason-get ya ready for the regular season-league.

The Jayhawk girls are playing in the Fall Pre-Season Girls High School Basketball League at Court Time Sports Center in Elizabeth.

The league actually began already. Jeannette played Brentwood and won by a final of 47-31. They also matched up against MHS A which is a team out of Morgantown, WV and beat them by a final 34-33. Both games were played on Sept 23.

There are six games left for you to get an early look at the Lady Jays, and I'm already hearing great things.

9/29 @ 7 PM vs. Franklin Regional A
9/30 @ 8 PM vs. Mt. Pleasant
10/7 @ 9 PM vs. West Mifflin A
10/12 @ 7 PM vs. Balwin
10/14 @ 7 PM vs. West Mifflin B
10/14 @ 8 PM vs. Franklin Regional B

More on this league can be found here.

Jayhawks leading the pack!

Ok...the defense...yeah I figured they would be at the top, but what a pleasant surprise seeing the offense up there too! I knew they'd be near the top, but not sitting up there alone.

Way to go guys!

This is from today's Tribune Review: (click on it to view larger, sorry for the quality)

Mt. Pleasant shuts out Lady Jays

Senior forward Alyssa Tlumack scores the hat-trick as Mt. Pleasant shuts out the Lady Jays tonight by a final of 7-0.

The girls travel to undefeated Geibel (4-0-0) tomorrow for a 4:00 start.

Ashley Formato uses her head, literally, to score on Jeannette. Click on image to view more photos from the game.

Lady Jays host Mt. Pleasant tonight

It took two overtime periods, but Yough outlasted Jeannette to hand the Lady Jays a 1-0 non section loss last night. The Lady Jays overall record goes to 3-2-2.

Jeannette(2-0-1 section) will host Mt. Pleasant(3-1-0 section) tonight for a 7:00 start.

From the Gridiron to the Diamond

Tough times continue for the midget league as the Blue Jays suffer another close loss falling to Franklin by a final of 16-14.

They weren't alone though, the Eagles fall by a final of 30-8 and the Hawks struggle with another goose egg losing by a final of 30-0.

Next Sunday Jeannette will host Penn Trafford for a 1:00 start.

Going from the gridiron to the diamond, the Jeannette Hawks, (girls fall-ball softball team), even out their record at 2-2 with 2 wins today. The first being a 6-4 win over McKeesport and the second over Plum by a final of 8-1.

Change in Midget Football Schedules

FYI:
The midget football games for today against Franklin and next weeks match against Penn Trafford have been moved to the alternate day, Sunday.

So tomorrow (9/20/09), Jeannette will travel to Franklin for a 1:00 start and next week Penn Trafford will visit Jeannette on Sunday 9/27/09 also for a 1:00 start.

Weekend Round Up

Sorry for the delay guys, been a hectic weekend for me so far. I'm on call for my regular job, and got interrupted three times at the game and four times today, so far. Hopefully that's all it will be.

But anyway, as you know Jeannette crushed South Allegheny last evening and again today at the JV game. The final from last night was 63-6 and the final in from the JV game was 40-12. This keeps both Jeannette teams with undefeated records at 3-0.

Going over the stats from last nights game, one in particular jumped out at me. That being the difference in penalties from last weeks Brownsville game compared to this weeks SA game. Against Brownsville Jeannette was penalized on 15 different occasions. Against SA, the Jayhawks showed way better discipline, taking only 5 penalties. Same goes in the turnover category, Jayhawks had four last week and a big giant 0, last night. Way to go guys!

Photos were kind of crappy last night, poor lighting at the stadium for the most part, but I did manage a few good ones, and you can see them right here. But to make up for that, I tossed together a compilation of video clips from the game, those you can see right here.

Photos from the JV game are located right here.

Week 3 brings a repeat winner

It's only week 3 and we already have a repeat winner in The "FINAL" Score game. Congrats again to Sarah Paul. Sarah, the week 1 winner, won this week by 1 point over another entry for 52-0. Look for week 4 to start on Sunday, (maybe Monday) and Good Luck!

Directions to South Allegheny Game

Redid directions, stadium is at 9th Street and Ohio Ave.

FSN opens High School Season with Ray Reitz, tonight!

Tonight on FSN (Channel 29 here in J-town), Ray Reitz's Latrobe Wildcats take on Gateway Gators, game kicks off at 7:00.

Good Luck Coach!

Lady Jays Soccer Continues to Impress

Goals from sophomore Symone Clarkson, her 4th on the season, and freshmen Emily Danko, with her 2nd of the season, give the Lady Jays soccer team their third straight win, in an impressive start to the 2009 season, with a 2-1 final over St. Joes.

The girls will host Riverview tomorrow with a 7:00 start.

Penn Hills lays 2 eggs on Jeannette

The Penn Hills midget Indians scalped all of our teams this weekend.:
  • Blue Jays lose by a final of 38-14
  • Eagles lose with a goose egg, 32-0
  • Hawks by another goose egg, 36-0
Next Saturday these birds will fly to Franklin for a  5:00 start, hopefully with better results.
Photos from the games can be seen here.

Terrelle after USC loss interview

Jv Jayhawks win at Brownsville

The JV team keeps pace with the varsity squad improving their record to 2-0-0, with a 26-14 win over Brownsville JV today.

It was a sloppy win, but none the less...a win

It wasn't pretty at all, but a "W" is a "W". Head Coach Roy Hall wasn't too pleased with his teams performance last night, even though his Jayhawks produced 369 yards of offense and held Brownsville to only 93 yards. "I'll take a sloppy win any day, but we are certainly not satisfied". The Jayhawks had to contend with eight penalties in the first period alone,
"I'll take a sloppy win any day, but we are certainly not satisfied"
during Friday nights 35 - 7 win over visiting Brownsville. Two touchdown runs, a 43 yard from senior Toddy Harris and a 50 yard run from freshmen Jordan Edmunds, were both called back on penalties. Both teams had four turnovers a piece and combined for a whopping 24 penalties totaling 180 yards, 16 of the 24 belonged to Jeannette for 120 yards.

The Jayhawks, who are notorious for having "traditional" stingy defense's, held true to that statement by holding their second opponent of the season to under 100 yards of offense, proving once again that defense's do win games. Defensive coordinator Jeremy Binakonsky's game plan held the Falcons to just 34 yards of offense through three quarters of play. Brownsville's only TD came late in the fourth Qtr. off a 21 yard dash from Levan Mickens.

Senior Toddy Harris led the way for Jayhawks scoring on three occasions, a 7yd run, a 3yd run and a 50yd run at the start of the fourth Qtr. Perhaps this was to answer back to the Edmunds 50yd sprint that was called back on a penalty to close the third Qtr.

Senior QB Tom Paulone punched a keeper in from 1 yard out and promising freshmen Shavonta Craft finished off the scoring with a 37yd screen pass from Matt Schrum.

I'm sure this weeks practice sessions won't be pretty, as the Jayhawks prepare for South Allegheny next Friday.

Photos from the Brownsville game can be seen right here.

X-Jayhawks on the Big Screen today

Today you can catch two Jayhawks on national television. The first being Davonte Shannon when Buffalo faces off against Pitt at noon on ABC (Channel 4 here in J-town). And the second game being USC at Ohio State, tonight at 8:00 on ESPN. (I heard a little tale that we may,(and I stress may) see Jordan on the field tonight also, have to watch and see I guess)

Week 2 Final Score Winner

I'd say Jamie Ford studied the teams! Congrats Jamie!

We had some very close guesses this week, but close don't cut it here in J-town. Well maybe at least you were one of the lucky ones to catch a Blog t-shirt from the cheerleaders!

Look for week 3 Final Score game to start on Sunday!

Soccer team improves to 2-0-1

The Lady Jays soccer team continues to make early waves in AA, with a 3-0 win over non section Valley. Jeannette goals came from Symone Clarkson, Emily Danko and Jessica Soles.

The girls will host St. Joes in the home opener Monday Sept. 14, for a 7:00 start.

Soccer team off to a good start

The Lady Jays soccer team, got off to a good conference start with a 1-0 win over East Allegheny. With only three minutes left in the game Symone Clarkson, with an assist from Kelly Sommer, scored the game winning goal.

The team travels to Valley for a non-conference match up tonight. Game starts at 7:00.

Veterans and Young Guns

Why not utilize the running game?

You can see what I'm talking about right here.

Congratulations Coach Hall!

Another Journey to the Shoe

My favorite roving reporter, Tim Adkins, made the journey to the shoe at OSU to catch yesterdays game. As usual, he has returned with some outstanding photos, which you can see right here.

Photos are of the Skull session at St. John Arena attended before the game, the scripted OHIO by the band which is only done on certain occasions, Saturday was a 40 year reunion of all band members which consisted of a 90 year old member marching on the field. (How cool is that?) The other band photo is them presenting the Navy Anchor to the Midshipmen, and a photo of Tim (Gray Shirt), retired Jeannette Math Teacher Tom Hershey and his son Ryan. And another photo of "Billy The Goat", Navy's mascot

And of course, what would the trip be without a photo of at least one of our favorite Jayhawks?

Thanks Tim!

Lady Jays tie Greensburg in double OT

The Lady Jays soccer team off goals from Symone Clarkson and Sidney Pecoraro ended in a 2-2 tie in double overtime today at non-section Greensburg Salem, to start the 2009 season.

The girls will open section play at East Allegheny this Wednesday, Sept. 9 with a 6:00 start.

One - Two punch, knocks Burrell Out

The Jayhawks JV squad opened the season with a 44-26 win over visiting Burrell Bucaneers. Freshmen Shavonta Craft and junior Shihon Moore delivered the one-two punch to capture the win.

Shavonta scored on four different occasions; a 26yd screen pass, a 44yd explosive run, a 56yd marathon run and another screen pass from 40yds.

Shihon landed in the end zone twice; on a 20yd scamper and again off a beautiful 58yd punt return.

Jared Kirkland got a piece of the action as well scoring off a 28yd TD pass from Matt Schrum.

JV's breeze to a 1-0-0 start. Photos from the game can be seen here.

Hall era begins with a bang!

Gatorade baths are normally saved for conference championship games, or state title games, but by overcoming preseason adversity and racking up a Hugh 45-13 win, in your debut game as the new head coach, is more than deserving of a good ole Gatorade bath.

The 1st Qtr of play was your typical start to a new season. Players being nervous and all, mistakes were made by both teams, interceptions, fumbles, the whole nine yards so to speak.

The third play of Jeannette's first possession resulted in a interception, to give East Allegheny an early chance to score from the 18 yard line. But senior linebacker Chris Smith had other visions on how this game should go, having two Hugh defensive plays, one for a loss in yardage and the next with an interception to regain possession for the Jayhawks, to stop this early EA scare.

It was a 36yd punt return by senior Toddy Harris in the final ticks of the 1st Qtr. to set up the first points of game. Nine seconds into the 2nd Qtr. Toddy would score from 21yds out to give the Jayhawks a 6-0 lead.

EA answered right back, returning the pursuing kick off 87yds to go ahead of the Hawks 7-6. They wouldn't find the end zone again, until late in the 4th Qtr. on a 42yd TD pass.

Jeannette on the other hand, would find it frequently. Darius Brown scored twice, one from 24yds out and another from 15yds on an impressive 60yd drive by the Hawks. Toddy Harris added another on a 54yd screen pass, and freshmen running back Jordan Edmunds punched one in from 4yds out. Junior Shihon Moore took one in from 20yds out while freshmen Shavonta Craft took advantage of the last of the Jayhawks scoring chances with a 4yd TD run, after an impressive 51yd scamper, to give the Hawks a 45-13 final.

This is Jeannette's 12th consecutive season opener win, and the 13th straight win on the road, the season home opener will be next week against Brownsville which is set for a 7:30 kick off.

Photos from the game can be seen right here, watch for videos to follow soon.

The FINAL Score - Week 1 Winner

Not only were the Jayhawks successful tonight with a 45 - 13 win over EA, but we also got our first winner of The "FINAL" Score game.

Congratulations to Sarah Paul:

There was another guess that came in at 36 - 12, unfortunately it came in after Sarah's guess, sorry.

Hey but don't give up, look for next weeks FINAL Score game on Sunday!

Rock Solid Era

The Jayhawks go over last minute items in preparation for the season opener

At precisely 7:30pm tonight, the Archivist at the National Archives in Washington DC, will venture 60 or 70 floors below the earths surface, and open the high school sports history archive, at which point they will begin inserting information and facts from the Jeannette Jayhawks 2009 season, which has been swiftly dubbed, "The Hall Era".

At the end of the 2009 season, this information will be sealed and securely stored there, 60 or 70 floors down, in the National Archives for all eternity. This process will continue until "The Hall Era", comes to an end.

Part of the reasoning behind this process, other than the fact that this will be extremely valuable information, is so that in the year...let's say 3009, coaches can hop in their flying saucers, take the 5 or 6 minute flight to Washington DC, and analyze just exactly what Roy Hall did to have such a successful era after the departure of Terrelle Pryor and Jordan Hall.

Will this actually happen?...I don't know, I won't be around in 3009. But I'm gonna have to say no on the flying saucers, we always thought we'd be flying in them by the year 1999 anyway. But I'm gonna definitely say yes, on the successful era!

25 seasons of experience, speaks for itself.

Despite the unexpected coaching changes, and the injuries encountered in the preseason, it didn't take long for Coach Hall to right his ship and set it back on it's course, and in some cases, even better it as well.

The coaching changes came from those 25 years of experience, unfortunately they also came as an unexpected surprise, but not only righting his ship with the insertion of assistants Doug Phillips and Jarvis Hall, I'd say Coach Hall has also improved his staff, drastically.

Injuries...well they suck. Every team deals with them at some point or another. GCC lost in the playoffs last season in part due to the injury sustained by their star running back, David Miller. It happens, what are you gonna do?

Injuries have also visited the Hawks this preseason, but with the impressive talent of the incoming freshmen class, the returning experience and the new standouts to emerge from camp, Jeannette should be able to fill all of these voids with ease and remain on course for a great season.

You can go to the National Archives if you want, but here's what you'll find when you get there:

Coach Hall had a successful era because of these three simple reasons. One, he loves the game. Two, he cares about the kids. And three, 25 years of rock solid experience!

Still got time!

There's still time to get your guess's in, The FINAL Score game will be pulled from the site around noon tomorrow.
