2009 Jayhawk Football Boosters Golf Outing

IMG_0016

Yes that is Terrelle, and yes he's not that bad on the golf course either!

The Football Boosters club held their 3rd annual golf outing yesterday at the Latrobe Elks Golf Course. A total of 132 participants, breaking into 33 foursomes hit the course to help raise money for the construction of the new Jayhawk weight room.

No official word on the groundbreaking as of just yet, but I'm told that it should be very soon.

First place winners with -13 were Carl Brantley, Les Brantley, Joe Corsi, and Tim Keck. Sealing the deal for second place with -10 were Bruce Paulone, Bob Dopkosky, Dave Scopa, and Roy Avolio. Congratulations guys!!

A HUGH thanks from the Boosters Club to all who participated in making this a success, more photos from the Outing can be viewed right here.

Thank You Golfers!

A helping hand

"It takes a little bit more, to be a Jayhawk", a catchphrase that exemplifies the hard work and dedication the Jayhawks must endure day in and day out, to be the best that they can be, on and off the field.

Tonight, 13 Jayhawks dedicated their "off" evening to the midget football program, (the same program where the majority of them got their start in Jeannette sports), to help teach the fundamentals of football, and what it means to be a Jayhawk.

Around 60 members of the Blue Jays, Eagles and Hawks gathered at Buster Clarkson field for conditioning with members of the Jayhawks. Toddy Harris, Tom Paulone, Trevor Petrillo, Chris Smith and Devon Holmes represented the senior Jayhawks. Dezon Hall, Matt Schrum, Darius Brown and new comer Shahawn Moore was in house for the juniors while Demetrius Cox, DJ Peters, Zack Nedley and Damon Bodnar represented the sophomores.

This was the first year that brought Jayhawks to the field. In previous years the Jayhawk coaches would venture down to Buster Clarkson and help teach the game. The smile on six year old Caleb Hall's face in the photo below "says it all" about the visit from the Jayhawks and how much this meant to him and the entire midget program.

Future workouts between the Jayhawks and the midget program are currently in the works. More photos from the Blue Jays, Eagles and Hawks conditioning camp with the Jayhawks, can be seen right here.

Help the Jeannette Midget Football Program

The flood on June 17, 2009 destroyed more property than people actually know about. Four feet of water claimed valuable equipment used by the Jeannette Midget Football program, which was stored in the field house at Buster Clarkson field.

You can help replace this equipment by simply enjoying an afternoon on your motorcycles. Click on flyer below for all the details.

No bike, but you still want to help? Call Lynn at 412-558-4220, any help will be greatly appreciated!

Week 2 comes to a close

Above is just a small sample of one of the drills the Hawks run through as week 2 of conditioning camp approaches an end.

Considering the minor setback created from departing coaches Ward and Liotta, progress in camp hasn't slowed in the least. As a matter of fact the intensity level at times, seems to be increased. Go figure?

More photos from week 2 can be seen right here.

Batts named new head coach

In a vote of 7-1, the Jeannette school board again wasted no time in hiring the right man for the job. Monday nights meeting resulted in the hiring of Adrian Batts as the new head coach to replace the departing Nesser.

Coach Batts, (shown on the left instructing the JV squad), has never held a head coaching position, but indeed knows his players, inside and out. Which should make the transition very smooth.

Congratulations Coach!! and Good Luck!!

Preps for the new season

The carousel of Interstate Conference football helmets above isn't there to make you dizzy! I promise!

It is just one of a few preparations to get ready for the 2009 season. If you click on a helmet it will open that schools respectable website. If anyone knows of a better website for that school shoot me an email over, and I'll change it.

If by chance you don't see a carousel of football helmets above then you probably need to load Adobe Flash Player, follow the prompts that came up when you loaded this site or click on the Adobe Flash Player link.

As stated earlier, this is one of a few preps for the new season, very soon you will be seeing some others, maybe noticeable maybe not. But they will be all for the good.

This season I teamed up with Subway, in case you haven't noticed. They will be providing the prizes for this years FINAL Score game. Oh yeah, it's returning too!!! Look for more details on that to follow.

Hey like I said many times...this site would be nothing without you guys! So this is all for you!

Lets Go Hawks!!!

Jeannette see's 5th coaching change of the year

I personally couldn't imagine taking on a new head coaching position and dealing with all the stress and headaches that are associated with it. To that you really got to tip your hat to Roy Hall.

The Trib reported today that Jim Ward, Jeannette's defensive coach, has accepted a head coaching job at Yough High School, forcing coach Hall to hit the recruiting trail late in July, in an attempt to find his replacement.

Good Luck Coach Hall!!

PG East Article

Got a real nice article in the Post Gazette on Coach Hall today, check it out right here.

At Last..........

At last, my love has come along,
My lonely days are over,
And life is like a song.

That would be the famous Etta James lyrics from the song, "At Last". But they also in a way, exemplify the beginning of the 2009 Jayhawk Football season, am I right? lol!! You hardcore Jayhawk fans know what I'm saying, don't you?

Yesterday kicked off the start of the 2009 Jayhawk Football season with conditioning at McKee Stadium. Besides myself, the usual "scouting crew" was in the stands to get an early look at the team and a general idea of how the season will go.

Our findings? Well lets start with bigger, definitely faster, more aggressive no doubt about it, just to name a few. These kids are working very hard, to bring you another exciting season of Jayhawk football.

As for Coach Hall and how he looked? Well let's put that concern to rest right now... "He's a 25+ year Jayhawk veteran, enough said!"

Photos from Day 1 can be seen right here.

Predators snag 1st place with perfect pitched game

Katherine Fey - "K-Fey", is one of a handful of Lady Jays to extend the high school softball season right into summer league play. Katherine's travel team for the summer is the Pittsburgh Predators, a U-18 team. I guess you could call them weekend warriors, as each weekend brings a new town, a new team and a new tournament challenge. The challenge this past weekend was in Cranberry, Pa. in the "Battle of the Burgh" tournament.

K-Fey pitched a "perfect game", her second on the season, to give the Predators a 12-0 win and to capture first place in the tournament.

For her outstanding pitching performance, Katherine has been awarded 2 MVP trophy's, one for each perfect game and has been contacted by several colleges in the Tri-State area including Carlisle and Bethany. Shippensburg University has also invited Katherine to work out with the team.

This weekend the Predators will travel to Toledo, Ohio and participate in a 48 team tournament there and then finish out the season the following weekend in Harrisburg, Pa.

Other Lady Jays who participate in the travel teams are Kirstie Cortazzo, Chelsea Sommers, and new up and coming rising stars, Delaney Cortazzo and Nicole Hall.

Congratulations K-Fey and good luck girls!!

Legion reaches playoffs, drop 1st of 3 game series

Many of you know that the Jeannette legion baseball team has reached the playoffs. Today they played game one of a 3 game series. Jeannette unfortunately couldn't hold onto a 6-5 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, and dropping the first game by a final of 7-6. Game 2 will be tomorrow at Haymaker Park in Murrysville with first pitch set for 1:00.

One more coaching change, in Jeannette

Jeannette is not quite done with coaching changes. After 11 years as the head coach of the Lady Jays softball team, Mike Butler has decided to retire.

Assistant coach Dee Cortazzo has been named the new head coach.

Congratulations Dee, ...and Mike..."We'll keep a bucket in the bleachers for ya!"
