All 4 WPIAL teams advance to the semi-final rounds

In A, Clairton dominated yet another game with a 26-0 win over Windber to advance into the semi final round where they'll meet the Farrell Steelers.

In AA, the Quips destroyed Karns City 42-14, four first quarter TD's from Aliquippa set the tone for this victory. The Quips will move on to meet the Wilmington Greyhounds who held on over Martinsburg, 21-19

And Thomas Jefferson still rules the AAA, with a 35-21 win over Erie Strong Vincent. TJ will play the West York Bulldogs in the semi-final round.

In AAAA, Bethel Park continues their 2nd half ball control tactics, with a 17-14 win over State College. BP will face the winner of Saturdays match up between Wilson and Cumberland Valley.

In a small note of interest, West Catholic Burrs bumped the Dunmore Bucks (last seasons PIAA runner up) out of quest for the gold, with a 49-21 victory.

White out conditions up Erie way!

Here's what TJ has to contend with tonight at Erie Veterans Memorial Stadium as they take on Erie Strong Vincent Colonels in the PIAA AAA quarterfinals. This photo was taken about a half hour ago, it's now 6:00.

Update on Jason

Jason Marquis was a honorable mention selection to the All-Centennial Conference football teams.

Jason was one of only two freshmen named to any of the All-Centennial squads. He finished the 2008 season with 56 total tackles, including 33 solo stops, and was fifth on the team in total tackles. He tallied 6.0 tackles for loss (14 yards), with 1.5 sacks for a loss of eight yards.

A COACHING LEGEND

After reading about the way Beaver Falls Coach Ryan Matsook was treated after the WPIAL Championship Game, I decided to hack in and write a positive story about coaching.

It went largely unnoticed a few weeks back but former Jeannette Football Coach Art Tragesser has retired from football, after 13 seasons as the head man at Penn Trafford and 39 years in coaching.

Coach Trag graduated from Jeannette in 1965 and was an assistant with the Hawks from 1969 to 1985. He then took on the impossible task of replacing legendary coach Joe Mucci as the head man at Jeannette. From 1986 to 1995 he won 73 football games, three conference championships, and his Jayhawks advanced to the WPIAL Championship Game in 1994. The coach was also a Social Studies teacher in the Jeannette School District for 27 years and two generations of Jeannette students will never forget "Create-A-Country."

After the 1995 season, Coach Trag took a job as the head man at Penn Trafford and at the time some called him a trader because of the intense rivalry between PT and Jeannette. Before the news of Coach Trag leaving hit the papers, he gathered his team in a classroom at the High School and I was there. (Hint, Hint!!!) His eyes filled up with tears and his voice began to crack as he told the players he was leaving the school he loved. After an emotional goodbye, that left a few large offensive lineman in tears, he gave each player a hug and a handshake as they made their way out of the classroom.

No one who knows Coach Tragesser would ever say a bad thing about him and Coach Trag himself would never say a bad word. If a player dropped a pass or missed a block, the worst you would hear from the coach is "Gosh Darn It!!' Art Tragesser may have spent his final coaching years at Penn Trafford but he is the perfect example of "Once a Jayhawk, Always a Jayhawk!!!" Thanks for everything Coach.........

National Enquirer or Post Gazette's High School Notebook?

1)Beaver Falls Coach Matsook has run in after the loss to Aliquippa Saturday....from Todd Thomas's mom.

2)Thomas guarantees an undefeated state title championship in Basketball.

This and more from the National Enquirer,...no...scratch that...it's actually all in the Post Gazette's High School Notebook, right here!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on these!!

WPIAL AAAA Championship wrap up

Battle of the Unbeatens in the WPIAL AAAA championship paired up (12-0) Gateway Gators and (12-0) Bethel Park Blackhawks. Defense was the main ingredient in this match up, and Bethel Park provided a lot more of it, to capture their first WPIAL Championship ever, and upset the #3 nationally ranked Gators. Their only other appearance was in 1980 when the Black Hawks lost to Mount Lebanon, 38-14.

The Gators fumbled the opening kickoff giving Bethel Park great field position. Unfortunately the Blackhawks were unable to capitalize and was forced to turn the ball over.

It was a defensive battle until 1:48 in the 1st quarter when Bethel Park running back Sr. Lyle Marsh (6’-1” 208lbs) scored from 2yds out, 7-0. Gateway’s Dorian Bell would later match the 2yd Td with one of his own, capitalizing on a Bethel Park fumble, 7-6. Gateway had 3 turnovers in the 1st half compared to the Blackhawks 1. Bethel Park also outgained Gateway in the first half, 100yds to 43yds.

Bethel Park added a 27yd field goal before the half to make it 10-6, and eventually the final score.

The Blackhawks will face the State College Little Lions in the PIAA quarter finals.

Congratulations to the Bethel Park Blackhawks

WPIAL AAA Championship wrap up

I believe it would be safe for Jaguar fans to go ahead and make those reservations for the PIAA state finals in Hershey this season, if they haven’t already. The powerhouse Jaguars proved exactly why they are seeded #1 in western Pa.

A highly impressive Thomas Jefferson created 4 turnovers in the first half alone, to give them a 20-0 edge going into the half mark. They outgained Blackhawk in total yardage 122 to 42 in just the first half.

Senior RB Brian Baldrige 5’-9”, 196lbs carried the ball 32 times for 138 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 34-14 final. The Jaguars outgained the Cougars, 298 yards to 172 yards and the defense did a great job of shutting down Hayward, who finished 6 of 21 for 30 yards and three interceptions.

This is the Jaguars 6th consecutive trip to the WPIAL finals and 3rd consecutive WPIAL Championship and 38th straight win against WPIAL teams.

Congratulations to the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars

WPIAL AA Championship wrap up

Beaver Falls Tigers just might not be destined, to be a WPIAL Championship team after all. After doing everything correct throughout the 2008 season, including defeating Aliquippa from a week 3 matchup 27-14, the Tigers find themselves once again, bumped out of the championship game and of any hope, of pursuing a state title.

The return of Maurice Carter (Carter set out the week 3 matchup between these teams), and a refreshed Aliquippa defense, turned out to be more than the Tigers could handle. The Quips defeated Beaver Falls in the WPIAL AA Championship game by a final of 8-6.

Maurice Carter rushed for 108 yards on 23 carries and scored on a 5-yard run with 56 seconds left in the first half to tie the score, 6-6. He also blocked a punt attempt that flew out the back of the end zone giving the Quips the 8-6 lead.

Beaver Falls found pay dirt first when Admire Carter scored on a 15-yard run on a hook and ladder from Todd Thomas. But the Aliquippa defense regrouped, as that would be the only points scored by the Tigers. Beaver Falls could get no closer than the Aliquippa 17 yard line on their final three possessions of the game.

This is Aliquippa’s 13th WPIAL AA championship in 19 appearances.

Aliquippa Quips (11-2) will advance to the PIAA quarterfinals against Karns City Gremlins (12-1) at Pine-Richland High School on Friday, November 28th at 7:00pm.

Congratulations to the Aliquippa Quips

WPIAL A Championship wrap up

The Clairton Bears entered the WPIAL A Championship game with a 12-0 record, and with all intentions of leaving it at 13-0. The Monaca Indians however had other ideas. The Indians would score first on a drive consisting of only 3 plays and 60 yards, and ended with a 38 yard touchdown run with 1:26 left in the first quarter, from Zach Garber.

Zach, the only running back to break the 100 yard mark against the Bears this season, rushed for 123 yards today.

This would be the only points scored by the Indian squad as Clairton would respond to the Indians drive, with an impressive drive of their own ending in a 23-yard scoring pass from Troy Webb to Malcolm Ford to tie it at 6 apiece. Webb filled in at the QB position for an injured Andrew Currington and passed for 111 yards and two touchdowns while adding 103 yards on the ground.

Troy Webb scrambled and found Deontae Howard for a 71-yard touchdown to break the 6-6 tie with 34 seconds left in the third quarter. And set what would eventually become the final score, 12-6.

Monaca found a late fourth quarter opportunity come up short on 4 incomplete passes, turning the ball and game back over to the Bears.

The Bears committed 13 penalties for 110 yards while fumbling 6 different times and losing 2 of those fumbles to the Indians. Monaca had 5 fumbles and lost 3, to the Bears.

Clairton Bears move onto the PIAA quarterfinals in their quest for a state title, with a match up against the Windber Ramblers (9-3) at Johnstown High School on Friday, November 28th at 7:00pm

Congratulations to the Clairton Bears

ALLOW ME TO REINTRODUCE MYSELF...

Just call me the JAYHAWK HACKER!! I’ve hacked into this website to share my thoughts on topics important to all Jeannettians. You'll hear from me every now and again or at least until Webmaster Dave changes the password. And speaking of Dave, if you see him at a Jayhawk game or walking down Clay Avenue, thank him for the countless hours he spends on this beautiful website. Just like our athletic tradition, this site is something we have that no other school does.

Alright enough kissing up, let's look back at the 2008 football season. I know it didn't end the way we wanted but it was another outstanding year. The Jayhawks made the playoffs for the 15th straight season, which is by far the longest active streak in the WPIAL. We won't talk about how I was involved with the last team to miss the playoffs. (hint, hint!!) Once again this year Jeannette was the last Westmoreland County team to be bounced from the playoffs and the Hawks set a new school record for consecutive wins with 24.

And how 'bout them Seniors!!! Two Conference Championships, two WPIAL Titles, one PIAA Championship, and a four-year record of 48-6!! Those accomplishments may never be achieved by a four-year class again at Jeannette. So Congratulations to JORDAN HALL, MOZIAH HARRIS, GREG WILLIAMS, BRANDON HAMILTON, CAMERON BARADZIEJ, LAMAR GRANT, SEAN FULTON, JUSTIN KETTREN, MARIELL MCGOWAN, DANE VAUGHAN, JAMES DERRY, CHRIS HALL, ANDREW KOLOSHINSKY, NICK CAMPBELL, JUSTIN MILANOVICH, JAKE WYANT, and JOHN PAUL ZOLLINGER.

And Finally a big shout out, as the kids say, to the Jeannette Coaching Staff. Another impressive year by Coach Reitz, who now has a head coaching record of 48-6. These coaches put in 25 hour work weeks on top of full time jobs to teach our kids on and off the field. From everyone in Jeannette THANK YOU to Ray, Coach Hall, Coach Cook, Coach Danton, Coach Beny, Coach Lebe, Coach Ward, Coach Detruf, and a big WELCOME HOME to Coach Rankin. More to come on a special coach next time around..........

Scrimmage canceled

The Albert Gallatin scrimmage basketball game has been canceled for this Saturday, I'm told that the team will try to reschedule it for another date if possible.

Eastern Player of The Week

unclefootball.com has named Jordan as the Eastern United States player of the week. Congrats J!!

More on Jordan's award here and more on unclefootball.com here.

Of course the future looks bright

The future looks bright for the Hawks, and why shouldn't it? Year after year, Jeannette produces great athletes, this is a well known fact. The Post Gazette realizes this. Click here!

The Jayhawk Hacker

I would have to say there is no immediate danger, of any kind to anybody, but we have a "sports" hacker at the site here.

This person has hacked into the site, and has taken 50% of the controls, over. Now why they would hack into this site is beyond me. There is no money, credit card info or anything of value here, that hasn't already been backed up, that is.

But I'm 99.9% sure, that they are not after valuables. Maybe because this irritating pop up window, that pops up...oh...about every 36 seconds or so, tells me that they are not interested in my valuables, but are highly interested with injecting us all with some great sports articles.

And with me losing 50% of the controls, we'll just have to sit back and see what The Jayhawk Hacker is all about! I'm told to look for his articles very soon, that's all the info I have, besides...well...The video below, that was attached to the takeover message, I guess it's part of this hacker's scheme. I don't know.

SAM FM Basketball Coverage

Hey guys, how about that Jayhawk football coverage from Brent & Don at SAM FM 107.1? Fantastic, huh? They even gave a guy over in Brazil on business, play by play analysis of the playoffs, and made him feel like he was back home listening to the Hawks. Now if that don't speak loud and clear to you, then I don't know what will!

Well it doesn't stop at football. Brent and Don will carry their talents over into the basketball season as well. You can check out their full schedule for the basketball season on their site, right here.

And click here, to check out SAM FM's preseason high school basketball rankings. You'll like the #1 spot!

Ready for some Basketball?

Hi everyone,
I've made some changes to the site, in preparation of the 2008/2009 Jayhawk Basketball season. If you look over on the right you'll find immediate information for the basketball season, schedules, game results, etc., similar to the one used for football. It seemed to work out very well for football so I decided to use it for basketball also.

If your wondering where the football stats went too, just scroll down to the very bottom of that column, you'll find them permanently located there.

I want to also show you the difference between Mozilla Firefox & Microsoft Internet Explorer and how each show the site differently. If you do not currently use Mozilla Firefox, I recommend that you check it out. You can download it right here. Not only does it load the site faster, but it also displays it better, and is safer than IE.

The Hawks are scheduled to scrimmage Albert Gallatin this Saturday at 11:00AM and the Lady Jays will scrimmage Connellsville on the 29th at 2:30PM, both scrimmages are away.

What a season it was!

What a season it was!

Jayhawk football has ended it’s season.
According to many,
There is just one reason.

So now I would like to give a great big Thanks,
to all of the teams that didn’t rise through the ranks.

We started with E.A.,
Then headed through Brownsville,
We then hosted S.A. and came away with a thrill.

Waynesburg and Charleroi we drove all those miles,
McGuffey tried their best,
But in the end they did not smile.

Along came Washington, That score made it clear,
Without Terrell Pryor we still made it here.

Mt. Pleasant ran their mouths, Talking all of their smack,
They soon shut their traps with that score on their back.

Now Greensburg Central we didn’t show our stuff,
We all walked away that night, Boy it was tough!

When Valley sailed in, I guess they did not know,
That night their ship was ready to sink,
That water sure did flow!

The Bobcats were tough, But just not enough.
Beaver Falls then took our place,
And maybe they will take it to states.

So many tears did flow,
If you are a true Jayhawk Fan you should know.
Let us give all those boys a hand,
They will always be #1 in this land.
Please remember who got us this far,
There is more than just 1 rising star!

Congratulations to the 2008 Jeannette Jayhawk Football players, all of the coaching staff, Jeannette Jayhawk cheerleaders, Jeannette Jayhawk marching band, parental support staff and so many others for an absolutely TERRIFIC season. You motivate so many with your outstanding performances and attitudes!
We are all so very proud of YOU!

Semi-Final Final Score winner

Congratulations to this weeks winner, Quentin

Hawks lose a true thriller!

The sign read "No More Pryor", and that was probably a good thing for Beaver Falls, because I personally felt they had their hands full with the 2008 Jayhawks.

The Jayhawks 28 points was the most points scored on Beaver Falls this season.

I said this was going to be the best game we seen this season, and other than losing, it was indeed just that.

And you can't take away anything from Beaver Falls, they are a worthy opponent, that's loaded with explosive talent. I wish them all the luck in the WPIAL championship game.

36 ticks off the clock in the first qtr. and BF was on the scoreboard on 2 quick plays, 7-0. The Jayhawks stunned, but not to be outdone, marched right back down the field and scored from 16yds out on a Baraziej keeper to make it 7-7. A huge defensive stand from Dane on 2nd and 9, and a Weightman sack on Omogrosso set up a missed field goal from Beaver Falls to end the 1st qtr.

With 4:48 left on the clock in the 2nd qtr, Carter would give BF their second TD on the night from 14yds out, BF 14 - Hawks 7. Cameron hooked up with Toddy for a 53yd strike to tie the game back up at 14 a piece. On BF's next possession with 1:04 left on the clock in the half Cody Cook showed his true speed by pouring on the jets down the sideline on a 72yd TD run to regain the lead, 21-14. The Hawks would battle back but fell short with 2.8 secs left, with an Int.to end the 1st half.

The Hawks first possession in the 2nd half would result in a fumble but the Jayhawk defense would stop BF on a 4th and 4. But a second fumble on the next set of downs was capitalized on by the Tigers when Thomas ran it in from 9yds out to extend their lead to 28-14.

A beautiful 49yd screen pass to Mariell would help set up a 10yd TD pass to James Derry and pull the Hawks closer, 28-21 with 1:17 left in the 3rd. At 7:02 in the 4th qtr a short pass from Cameron to Jordan Hall would transpire into an 87yd TD run and a tie game, 28-28.

After the defense fell short on a 4th and 9, Thomas would seal the deal with a 1yd TD run to put the Tigers back on top where they'd remain, 35-28.

Losing is tough, no 2 ways about it! Hold your heads high though guys, you got nothing to be ashamed of! You always provide an exciting season here in J-town!! And I for one, am glad I get to experience it every Friday night.

I still love them Hawks!!!

Beaver Falls - 35
Jeannette - 28

I still love them Hawks
and could not be any more prouder of them if I tried!!!!

This is a big game folks, I guess I don't have to tell you that. Make some noise tonight and let them Hawks know we're behind them, 100%!!

Let's Go Hawks!!!!!

Anonymous food for thought

This was sent in anonymously to me:

so I was thinking....

coach Reitz spoke recently at our football banquet and he touched on how the fans can really make a difference during the games; the need to be supportive of our players and our team.

He requested for us all to come to the games...make some noise to show our support and he stressed on how the boys hear you and see you.... he was real adamant about that....and I firmly believe that even though our team and players prepare on a daily basis....and have what it takes as a team to win...its sometimes the little things like to which he speaks, "the fans", which can make it or break it when comes down to a do or die situation-case in point -tomorrow night as we are projected underdogs!

one thing we can pride ourselves on, is our team spirit, our town spirit, and our support of our Jayhawks. we've got the foundation. we can rise them up! We all should take on our respective "position" on the team....are we ready? in true red and blue fashion?

interesting inspirational quotes for our boys:

A successful team beats with one heart

Everyone has the desire to win, but only champions have the desire to prepare.

The 5 S's of sports training are: stamina, speed, strength, skill, and spirit; but the greatest of these is spirit.

Sports remain a great metaphor for life's more difficult lessons. It was through athletics that many of us first came to understand that fear can be tamed; that on a team the whole is more than the sum of its parts; and that the ability to be heroic lies, to a surprising degree, within."

Where there is unity there is always victory.

A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done.” Vince Lombardi

An athlete is a normal person with the gift of an undying passion to be the best and achieve greatness.

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

Don't limit your challenges - challenge your limits

Champions separate the important from the unimportant. They know that good press, playing time or individual honors aren't as important as knowing that you and your teammates have responded to the challenge together.
Together we stand, together we fall, together we're winners, and winners take all.

The difference between a good athlete and a top athlete is the top athlete will do the mundane things when nobodies looking

"Individual glory is insignificant when compared to achieving victory as a team."

Being the best that you can be is possible only if your desire to be a champion is greater than your fear of failure.

On a good team there are no superstars. There are great players who show they are great players by being able to play with others as a team. They have the ability to be superstars, but if they fit into a good team, they make sacrifices, they do things necessary to help the team win. What the numbers are in salaries or statistics don't matter; how they play together does.

Play like you're in first, but train like you're in second

The Hawks have, what it takes

Beaver Falls is favored to win this Friday, when they meet the Jayhawks in the semi-final round of the WPIAL playoffs. Everyone is picking them.

But if I were you, I wouldn't be so quick to jump on that bandwagon.

Since the 2006 playoffs, Jeannette, under the Reitz administration, is 4-0 while averaging 51 points per game against Beaver County teams.

Last seasons AA WPIAL championship game against this same Tiger squad, was won by the Hawks by a final of 61-12. It earned the Hawks their 2nd straight WPIAL Championship.

Beaver Falls (11-0) knocked Ford City out of the playoff race last week with a 42-12 win. Tiger QB, Tony Omogrosso went 3-5 in the passing department for 134 yards and 3 TD's. Carter had two of the 3 TD passes, one for 61yds and another for 32. Chiapeita caught the 3rd from 41yds. Rushing TD's came from Cook (1yd), Thomas (2yd), and Carter (30yd). Cook finished the evening off with 90 total yards rushing and Thomas had a total of 80yds.

The Jayhawks enter the semi-final round after crushing the hopes of another Beaver County team. The Bobcats lost last week by a final of 57-28. Cameron completed 8 of 11 passes for 190yds and 2 TD's including the 97yd stike to Moziah. Cameron also punched one in on the keeper from a yard out. Moziah had 4 catches for 127yds, and Jordan rushed for 108yds and 3 TD's, one a 46yd fumble return.

I think this game has all the ingredients of possibly being the best game that we have seen so far this season. I'll be hopping on the bandwagon that says, the Hawks have what it takes to upset an 11-0 team.

11-0 tells me your a great team, it doesn't say you can't be beat!

Things aren't all that bad!

Maybe you've seen this picture on the internet or maybe not. Someone decided to take a photo of Terrelle all down on himself after the loss to Penn State. Terrelle had a fumble and threw an int. in the 13-6 loss.

But to bring things into perspective on his season so far, let's start with that Penn State game. All in all, it really wasn't that bad of a game for Terrelle, he did finish that game with 226 passing yards, and gained a massive amount of first hand experience. Which he carried over into the Northwestern game and collected what some are calling "his best performance" so far this season.

In the 45-10 win against Northwestern, Terrelle had 6 carries for 33yds and completed 9 of 14 passes for 197yds and 3 touchdowns, not a bad day at all!

On the season, he has rushed for 450yds on 103 carries, an average of 4.4yds per carry and has accumulated 5 touchdowns on the ground. He is currently the 2nd leading rusher on the team, behind Beanie Wells who has 814yds on the season.

Now..., for the people who said that Terrelle can't throw the ball. Shame on you! Yeah, he needs some work on a few things at the college level, but Terrelle could always throw the ball. We've seen that first hand. On the season so far at OSU, he has completed 84 of 129 attempts for 1,076yds and 9 TD's. And leads the Big Ten Conference with a passer rating of 153.6. (this is higher then Boeckman's was at the end of the 2007 season), Terrelle is one of two freshmen on that list, Steven Threet (Mich. QB) the other freshmen, is at the bottom with a passer rating of 107.1.

If your a true Jayhawk fan you know why Terrelle has his head down in that photo, but you also know what happens when he decides to make amends for his mistakes.

Week 11 "FINAL" Score Winner

Congratulations Heather!

Jayhawks win, advance to repeat Beaver Falls

If I ride them a little when it's bad play calling, it is only fair to applaud them when they're on the mark with the plays. Excellent job guys, excellent job!

When Beaver deferred the opening kick off, someone turned to me and said, "that's their first mistake". But as it turned out, it was actually a good call. Beaver's defense forced Jeannette to a 4 and out on their first possession, Cameron would sail a 78yd punt to burden the Bobcats field position, but that didn't matter to Jake Nardone. On Beaver's first drive of the game, Jake would march his Bobcats straight down the field and toss 7 points on the board while they were down there.

Jayhawks second possession resulted in a punt also. This time however, Cameron would pin the Bobcats on their own 2 yd line. And after a few adjustments to the Jayhawk defense to counter the Beaver run attack, Beaver was forced to punt. This punt would only go 27yds and set up a beautiful run from Dane Vaughan, from 29yds out to tie the game at 7 a piece.

Cameron would punch in a 1yd keeper, Jordan would add another from 2yds out, and Moziah caught a 97yd TD pass down the sidelines, to put the Hawks up 28-7. Beaver would add another TD with 33 ticks left on the clock, to make the score 28-14. That's where it would stand going into the half mark.

Third quarter opened up with a 3yd TD run from Jordan Hall, and a 2pt conversion from Tom Paulone to Dane Vaughan, Hawks up 36-14. Moziah would return a 49yd interception to extend the lead, 43-14.

At that point things started to go Beavers way. The Bobcats recovered a fumble in the end zone followed by a recovered onside kick and then a bomb in the end zone to make the score 43-28.

James Derry would score from 29yds out, but Jordan would make "the final statement" when he stripped the ball right from Jake Nardone's hands, ending his night with 157yds, and returning it from 46yds to make the final 57-28.

Hawks capture victory 651 and will face Beaver Falls in the semi-final round, who I'm sure are looking for that revenge game from last years defeat at Heinz field.

And on a rival note: We won't get a second crack at GCC after all, Aliquippa threw salt on the wounded Centurions tonight, beating them 32-14 and knocking them out of the playoffs. Yeah sad, I know!

Play like there's no tomorrow!

I guess last week can be considered a "WPIAL playoff warm-up round", at least in AA.

Other than Center upsetting Seton LaSalle and perhaps the Sto-Rox loss, every predicted winner in AA, did just that.

Tonight though, starts a whole new game, and the team that doesn't play like there's no tomorrow, will watch the rest of the playoffs from the stands.

And nobody understands that better right now, than GCC.

First reports were that David Miller tore his ACL, and later it was decided that it was only stretched. Okay...,that's good for Miller's future, but bad for GCC tonight. Miller will sit this one out and give the reigns back over to Mark Hornfeck, who he beat out for the position. And let's say Hornfeck is having a great season anyway, they still got to face the #3 defense from the Midwestern conference, in Aliquippa. The Quips give up an average of 12.2 points a game, and last week they stopped EA's Monte Ashby in his tracks with only 65 yards on 23 carries, while creating 5 turnovers.

And if that isn't enough for Muzzy to deal with, the Quips offense is running on all it's cylinders too.

Maurice Carter led the Quips against EA with 108yds, his season totals are: 82 carries, 840 yards, and 11 Td's. The Quips are coming into this game with 6 straight wins under their belt. Rasheem Jones is having a great season, as well as Patrick and Kenney. Patrick scored two 3rd qtr TD's to seal the deal against EA and Kenney is leading the Quips with 13 catches for 281 yards, an average of 21.6 yards per catch.

And like every other Jayhawk fan, who still has that sour taste of defeat in their mouths, I also would like to see GCC again at Heinz, but I just don't think it is meant to be this season. But hey...you never know, I could be wrong!!

Favored to win tonight in the WPIAL AA: Beaver Falls, Jeannette (of course), Shady Side and yes...Aliquippa.

Ah, the old winning streak!

This gives a new meaning to "Winning Streak"

It won't be easy, but it can be done.

The road to Heinz has always been a tough one to follow, and hasn't always ended with favorable results for the Hawks.

The 2007 and the 2008 seasons were without a doubt very memorable and favorable for the Hawks who finished 14-2-0 in 2007 and of course went undefeated in 2008 at 16-0-0. But prior to those outstanding seasons the Hawks weren't so fortunate.

In 2006 they were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round against the Mohawk Warriors by a final of 33-0. Mohawk's stride for the gold came to an abrupt halt the following week, when they faced South Park and lost 41-7. South Park went on to win the state title, beating Wilson by a final of 28-17.

The 2005 season wasn't much better for the Hawks. It was another first round knock out, this time by Ford City. The Hawks fell 56-27 to the Sabers. Ford City advanced to the next round where they got crushed by the Quips, 31-7.

But in 2004 the road actually lead to Heinz, where the Hawks unfortunately lost a heart breaker to Aliquippa, by a final of 18-4. Finishing their season at 12-1-0. But that road also included a semifinal battle and last meeting with none other than the Beaver Area Bobcats, where the Hawks won 10-8. Aliquippa went on to win the state title beating Northern Lehigh in a close one 32-27 and finished off their season at 14-1-0. Their only loss that season was to Beaver Falls, 33-18.

And once again this season, the road to Heinz is paved with obstacles. Starting this Friday with the Beaver Bobcats and the number 1 running back in the WPIAL, Jake Nardone.

Jake accumulated a whopping 279 yards on 42 carries and 4 TD's against Sto Rox Friday night. But Sto-Rox's defense gave up an overall total of 210 points (an average of 21 per game) on the season, 3rd highest in their conference. So I believe it would be safe to say that Paul Jones and the high powered offense of Sto-Rox (#1 in their conference), kept them in the race as long as it did.

This road to Heinz works both ways though, not only do we gotta deal with the obstacles, but so does Beaver and Jake Nardone. If Jake wants to propel his team into the semi final round, he'll have to find an answer for the #3 defense in AA, the Jayhawks. And it only gets tougher for the winner, Shady Side's defense leads the AA and Ford City's is #2 and both these teams are still in the mix.

Jeannette's defense stuffed Valley this past Friday, allowing only 1 touchdown while creating 6 turnovers. And the Vikings came into that game averaging 21.9 points a game. Beaver's defense gives up a modest average of 18.1 points per game, our Hawks give up on average, only 7.8 points a game. You do the math! I stood beside a scout for Beaver at the Valley game, and he was only filming our defense!

My prediction for Friday, is it won't be an easy win for either team, no, this victory will go to the team who wins the battles in the trenches. And it's a good thing that our Hawks got plenty of experience in that department.

Jayhawk fans across the globe!

Here's a little something very interesting for you. Did you know that last nights Jayhawk game was broadcast over in Brazil?

It's true! Via the internet of course. But a true Jayhawk fan who's over there on business was able to enjoy the entire game last night with the hometown voices of Brent Whigham and Don Conde calling the game. It was like, being at the game, for him!

Now how neat, is technology?

Game Photos

I uploaded some photos of the game, but they aren't real good. Something was set wrong on the camera and I didn't catch it, sorry. But I do have some pretty good videos which I'm working on, check for them later!

We have a 2 time winner

Congratulations to Nick again, not only did Nick predict the score right tonight, but he also predicted it back on week 7 against Washington!
