Tennis forfeits, Soccer gets a win!

Tennis team had to forfeit their match against Derry today, they did however hold an exhibition match, which produced some good results. The girls have one game left on the season at GCC this Wednesday, Oct. 1 for a 3:30 start.

And I'm told the soccer team pulled out a victory over Monesson tonight, 3-0. Two goals from Kirstie, with assists from Jessica, and a third goal from Lana was more than enough to handle the girls from Monesson. The Lady Jays hit the road again, tomorrow heading to Serra Catholic for a non conference match up at 3:45.

Game of The Week

Midget game photos and video

Ok kids, now you can see the outstanding 4th qtr. comeback from the Hawks for yourselves. I've uploaded photos and video from the games in the media site. The photos consist of 450 photos, yeah I went a little overboard, so I recommend viewing them at full screen, that way you can sit back, relax and enjoy the game. I also uploaded a video with Shavonte Crafts tying TD and game winning TD, so you all can enjoy this memorable moment in Hawk football.

Hawks win BIG, REAL BIG!!!

The Blue Jays fumbled their first possesion, and the Indians of Penn Trafford didn't waste no time jumping on top, the ball and the score! Blue Jays drop to 3-4 on the season losing to the Indians 26-6. Kareem Hall, yes.. Jordan's little brother, had a beautiful 53yd TD run, unfortunately it was called back.

Eagles also lost today by a final of 31-0, and once again another 50yd TD run, this time by Deshaun Jones of the Eagles, was called back on a penalty. Special teams shined a little in this game though, blocking 2 extra point attempts in the 2nd qtr.

And folks maybe your not aware of this well known fact, or maybe you are. But did you know that the good LORD set aside Sundays just for football? Watching or playing!!

He certainly had his eyes on the Hawks today!

What started out as a very good defensive struggle between the Hawks and PT, quickly turned into a sure fire blow out. Except the Hawks had other plans! 2 TD's in the second qtr, put PT on top going into the half mark. And on their first possession of the 3rd qtr., they busted out a 64yd TD run to make the score 20-0. Now at this point your thinking it's all over for the Hawks, aren't you? Well shame on you!

The Hawks exploded in the 4th qtr, scoring 20 unanswered points to tie it up and go into OT. Shavonte Craft scored the tying TD, and in OT would plunge in from about 6yds out (look for video of the tying TD and the OT TD in the media section),to give the Hawks this amazing victory, 26-20.

Congratulations boys on an outstanding 4th quarter comeback, and I mean OUTSTANDING!! you had to see it to believe it folks!!

Photos and video from the game coming very soon in the media section!

Photo's and video, uploaded

Photo's and video's, even one of the band, are now on the media site

Winner for week 5

Congratulations to Mia Cline!

Hawks give up first points, but still get the "W"

Relax everybody, it was only 7 points. Besides, it was gonna happen sooner or later. And the way I see it is, now it's done and out of the way. Let's move on.

Charleroi held their homecoming tonight, and in good nature the Hawks gave them 7 points right off the bat. But 7 was all they were getting on the night, hey we're nice, not stupid!

Charleroi opened the scoring with a convincing first possession drive of 70yds down the field, only to end it by putting 7 points on the board. Stunned, but not disoriented, the Hawks recouped and tossed a 6yd TD pass to Brian Weightman with 8:35 left in the 2nd qtr., extra pt attempt was good, but called back on an illegal procedure, the second attempt went wide, 7-6 Charleroi. Shortly there after, Dane Vaughan would score on a 17yd screen pass from Cameron and Moziah would add the 2 point conversion, to give the Hawks a 14-7 lead going into the half mark.

The 2nd half brought a "brand new" Jayhawk team to the field. On their first possession the Hawks drove it down the field to capitalize with a 8yd TD catch from Mariell McGowan to give the Hawks a 20-7 lead, extra point was blocked. After pinning Charleroi deep, Jordan tracked down the QB for a sack in the end zone and the safety, Hawks 22-7.

With 9:14 left on the clock in the 4th qtr., Jordan busted out a 35yd TD run, and John Paul would add the extra point to extend the lead, 29-7. Greg Williams later would bust out his own little yardage gainer, in combination with a pass from Cameron for a total of 64yds before being pulled down at the 33yd line. This would indeed set up the next score, which came on a 30yd TD catch to Moziah Harris and a John Paul extra point, giving the Hawks the final score of the game, 36-7.

So the shutout streak has come to an end, but we entered a 4 way tie with the Jayhawks of 1935 to 1937, the Jayhawks of 1971 to 1972 and the Jayhawks of 1983 to 1984, in a 21 game win streak. Next week at McGuffey the Hawks can set a new school record of 22 straight games with out a loss, good luck guys!!!

Photo's and video from the game, coming soon!

Jayhawks recognized near and far

I'm trying not to overload you on game day, but here's 2 pretty good articles.

One in the Post Gazette about the Hawks, and the other about our town, in the Columbus Dispatch.

Mariell, one to watch!

The Trib got Mariell as one to watch tonight, and I agree!

Tribs write up:

MARIELL McGOWAN, Jeannette

Senior, RB, 5-8, 180

The Buzz: McGowan ran for two touchdowns in Jeannette's 49-0 win over Waynesburg two weeks ago, and has helped the Jayhawks outscore their four opponents, 138-0.

But the Trib screwed it up a bit, Mariell ran for two TD's against South Allegheny 2 weeks ago, not Waynesburg. He also ran for 2 TD's in the opener against EA, and 1 against Brownsville in week 2.

Against Waynesburg, Mariell kept a low profile, must be saving it for this weekend, what do you think?

The Hen's picks - Week 5

Feature game: Mount Pleasant Vikings (2-2) at East Allegheny Wildcats (3-1)

When: Friday, September 26, 7:30 pm

Where: East Allegheny

Noteworthy: High expectations were had by many for both of these teams. Mount Pleasant is playing its first season in Class AA after dropping from Class AAA, but has still struggled so far this season with a mediocre (2-2) record. East Allegheny boasts one of the WPIAL's top rushers in Monte Ashby. Last week, the Wildcats ran over Washington, 43-6, with Ashby contributing 172 yards and two TDs. East Allegheny has dominated its last three games against Charleroi, McGuffey, and Waynesburg, but struggled significantly with Jeannette in Week 1.

Winner: East Allegheny

The rest of the week 5 picks can be seen over in "The Hen House"

Update on Jason Marquis

How about an update on Jason Marquis?

As you are aware, Jason is attending Juniata College playing DL for the Eagles and wearing #97. Although the Eagles haven't won this season thus far, it would appear that Jason has carried his traits from the Jayhawks and has applied them with the Eagles.

During week 1, Sept. 6th vs Allegheny, Jason had a hand in 6 tackles, 2 solo and 4 assisted. 1 for a loss of 8yds which was the result of a sack on ex Norwin QB, T.J. Salopek.

During week 2, Sept. 13th vs Susquehanna U., Jason led the Eagles in tackles with 7.

And during week 3, Sept. 20 vs Ursinus, Jason record only 3 tackles but 2 were for a loss in yardage.

While going down through the stats on Jason, I noticed that during most if not all of his tackles, the runner only got a yard or 4 at the most before being stopped in his tracks by this tough Jayhawk.

Keep up the great work, Jason!

Best Kept Secret in Jeannette

Sit down for this one folks, I'm about to reveal THE BEST KEPT SECRET, right here in Jeannette.

Yesterday, Sue and I were running some errands and decided on some lunch here in town. We just happened to go by Mimi's Kitchen, who had a sign out front which read, "All the Spaghetti you can eat, $4.99". Now I don't know about you but I'm a sucker for a good plate of spaghetti, and all you can eat of it, for only $4.99? C'mon!

Well once inside the restaurant, and after looking over the many selections on the menu I decide on the Western Burger (the 1/2lb!! - western burger), and a side of beer battered fries, Sue had the same except she had the American burger.

It took a little while for the food to arrive at the table, but that was because it was a 1/2lb burger and mine has got to be well done, it wasn't because of the service. The service was absolutely fantastic!!

And I got to tell you, have you ever just did something that you really enjoyed, and just simply didn't want that moment to end, because it felt that good to you? That was me, the whole time I was eating this awesome lunch.

So the next time your in town, or better yet...don't wait, make the trip to town to experience for yourselves, what I'm telling you about now. I guarantee, you'll love it!!!

Car wash

This Saturday Sept. 27th, the tennis team will hold a car wash at Advance Auto Parts on Rt. 30. Providing, weather permits. The times set for this are 10:00am till 2:00pm or until done with all vehicles.

So here's that chance to wash off that last bit of summer dirt on your ride, and if your like me, then this works out great! Stop up and let the girls get your ride shining again!

All proceeds will help fund the Tennis team.

Close but no cigar!

I guess the best way to explain it is, Samantha Linsenbigler played her last save card, on the shot before the one that went in, to give St. Joes a 1-0 lead and a W in the win column.

This was however the best defensive stance from the junior goal keeper, thus far in the season, that I've seen anyway. I lost count, but I'd have to estimate about 25 or more saves on the night for Sam.

Offensively, Jeannette had about the same amount of opportunities to sink one in, but the only one that actually did hit the back of the goal, off the foot of Kirstie Cortazzo, was called back on a off sides call. Talk about not being able to get a break!

The girls travel to East Allegheny tomorrow for a 7:00 start with hopes of ending this losing streak. They've lost their last 6 games, dropping to 2-8 overall, and 1-6 in conference.

Photos from the St. Joes game can be seen in the media section.

Midget scores from this past weekend

Here's the scores from the Plum vs Jeannette match up this past weekend:

Blue Jays won 22-0 and put themselves into a possible playoff spot.

Eagles however, continue in the losing column. Dropping yet another one, 28-0 and aren't even concerned about a playoff spot.

Hawks on the other hand, did clinch a playoff spot with a 22-14 win over Plum.

The games this weekend will be on Sunday at Penn Trafford, 1:00 start.

Pathetic news

Here's something pretty pathetic from around the country:

Game of the Week

A day at "The Shoe"

Jayhawk Tim and a slew of other Jayhawk fans traveled to the shoe to see Terrelle in yesterdays game against Troy, here's how it went:

Here's the scoop ....

4:30 am rise and shine
5:30 am hit the road
8:15 - 9:00 am breakfast
9:45 am arrive @ OSU Campus
explore facilities - catch OSU Band Skull Session - photo ops
10:45 am take our seats in the 'SHOE'
11:00 am OSU Marching Band enters stadium for 20 minute pre game show!
11:25 am Terrelle Pryor and OSU Buckeyes enter stadium for pre game ritual and warm ups
11:30-11:55 more photo ops while chilling with more Jayhawk fans in the end zone
12:00 NOON kickoff!

103,000 Buckeye fans do the wave chant of O - H - I - O several times around the 'SHOE'.

Watch TP throw for 4 TDs in a Buckeye record setting performance!

Mind you, this game was only a mediocre outing for Terrelle.
We 'Hawks fans all know what he can do with a team - those Buckeyes fans are getting just a small taste thus far.
I informed many OSU fans in my vicinity of TP's efforts through out high school, and told them all to ....

'Keep watching this phenomenon, you haven't seen anything yet .... in the next 3-4 years, you WILL be awestruck and utterly amazed'

After the win, we walked around the entire 'Shoe' and found a crowd gathered near an interior gate ... what's this? We wait - and for 45 minutes, OSU players keep filing out of the locker room and most of them sign autographs for fans.

We are told that QB's and Coach Tressel NEVER come out from that gate ... they have a private exit.
We wait ...and wait ...and BAM!
TP appears at that gate and is TAKEN by the arm towards a waiting bus ...
I start screaming 'LET's GO HAWKS! .... LET's GO HAWKS!' then all six of us chime in together.
He stopped dead in his tracks - scoped us out in the crowd with our Jayhawks beach towel draped over the gate railing. He came over to us with a 50 foot grin on his face and started signing autographs for us and the rest of the fans who nearly pushed us through the steel railing!

*see photos

6 OSU game tickets ...$426
23 gallons of 87 octane ...$82
1 OSU Nike hoodie/Nike hat/Nike t-shirt...$95

Getting to LIVE what I just wrote about ..... P R I C E L E S S !

Go Bucks!

Jayhawk Tim

How was your day?

Here's how his went:

His first career start and the first freshmen to start at OSU since 1978. Completed 10 of 16 passes for 139yds, an average of 8.7yds per pass. Had 4 TD (record for freshmen) passes, of 39yds, 38yds, 16yds & 13yds. Ran a total of 66yds on 14 carries, an average of 4.7yds per carry.

That's our Jayhawk, Terrelle Pryor.

JV's win again

Let's say your Mike Dent, ex-Jayhawk and now starting center for the West Virginia Mountaineers, and you played your game on Thursday in Colorado. What do you do on the rare off weekend?

Simple, You come back home for moms home cooking and to check up on the JV game! Once a Jayhawk, always a Jayhawk!

And Mike caught a great game today, as the JV Jayhawks out powered the JV of Waynesburg by a final score of 24-14.

Preston Snowden got on the boards first for the Hawks off a double reverse 60yd TD run, but Waynesburg hung in there. With 3:53 left on the clock in the 1st qtr. Waynesburg had a nice drive down the field to tie it up 6-6. Their 2 pt conversion attempt was stopped dead in it's tracks though, by one of many outstanding defensive plays through out the game, from sophomore Mike DePalma.

Sean Fulton would add 6 more off yet another trick play, the double pass, to give the Hawks a 12-6 lead going into the half.

Fatman got the second half scoring started, returning a 76yd punt, to put the Hawks in a 18-6 advantage. Mike Penn would later take one in from 10yds out to put the Hawks up 24-6.

And I got to hand it to the Waynesburg JV squad, they didn't throw in the towel. Late in the 4th qtr. Waynesburg constructed a beautiful scoring drive and 2 pt conversion to make the final 24-14.

Another exciting JV Saturday, indeed! Photo's and eventually video from today's match up can be found on the new media site.

Game write ups

Here's the game write up in the Post Gazette:

Jeannette 49, Waynesburg 0

Defending WPIAL and PIAA Class AA champion Jeannette (4-0, 4-0) continued its dominance by rolling to its Interstate Conference win at Waynesburg (1-3, 1-3). The Jayhawks have won 20 consecutive games and have yet to allow a point this season in their four games. The offense has been almost as good in rolling up a total of 178 points for an average of 44.5 points per game.

And here's the write up in the Trib

Check out the photo's and video's from the game

Photo's and video from the Waynesburg game are now uploaded, in the new media site.

Hawks win in 2 qtrs.

Did you honestly think it would go any other way? Really!

Hawks demolished Waynesburg 49-0, capturing their 4th straight shutout with a lot of class, (I'll explain in a moment), extending their winning streak to 20 games now! One other note, the Hawks have inflicted the mercy rule on every team they've faced thus far.

No Mercy boys!!

James Derry didn't wait long, with only 2:42 off the clock, he ran it in from 48yds out to give the Hawks a 6-0 lead. And then...HOLD everything, who's this new guy? John Paul Zollinger? I heard the Hawks picked him up off waivers?

John, an ex soccer/golf player, is the new place kicker for the Hawks, and I want to be the first to welcome him to the team! John went 6 for 6 on extra points, and filled a very big void in the team. Welcome John!

And with only 1:18 left in the 1st qtr., Jordan ran one in from 20yds out and John's extra pt. made it 14-0. Cameron would then intercept a Waynesburg pass returning it 26yds, setting up a beautiful 25yd TD pass to a leaping Brandon Hamilton in the end zone, enter John's extra pt. and a score of 21-0. Jordan would later add a 50yd punt return for a TD to go ahead 28-0, after the extra point.

And yet another Jordan Hall TD, this time from 10yds out, extra point good, Hawks 35-0. De'-De' would get an Int of his own setting up, yes you got it, one more Jordan Hall TD, this after a 36yd pass from Jordan to Moziah down the sidelines where Moziah stepped out at the 9yd line. Jordan would finish off the drive scoring from 9yds out giving the Hawks a 42-0 lead. And folks, this all happened in the first half!

Late in the 4th qtr., Trevon Craft would punch one in from 6yds out to give the Hawks a 48-0 lead, and this time the extra point would come off the foot of Justin Kettren who caught the upright and bounced it through for a final of 49-0. I guess when things are going good, things are just going good!

Hawks travel again next week, down to Charleroi for a 7:30 kick off. Photo's and video's to follow soon!

Now, the class thing! I was getting text updates from the GCC game, and one of them went this way: 49-6/Muzzy still has the starters in, in the 4th qtr.

Our starters started trickling out at the start of the 2nd half, now that's class.

PS: Hey Cheerleaders, NICE SIGN!!!

Week 4 winner!

We have a winner in The "FINAL" Score game!

The rest of you shouldn't of even played, this was the very first guess of week 4! How about that?!

Congrats Mary!

Oldies but Goodies!

Andre Coles over at Football Power, wanted me to share some older interviews he did, with you. One with Terrelle and another with Coach Reitz. Both from the Washington game last season, Sept. 7th. I don't know about you, but I've never seen these before.

Here's the interview with Terrelle

And here's the interview with Coach Reitz

Thanks Andre

Great article, Great website!

Have I ever steered you guys, down the wrong path?

Nah, I didn't think so either, that's why I'm gonna tell you about a site I stumbled across, well actually someone enticed me to stumble across it, but that's ok, I'm glad he did.

Anyhoot, a writer by the name of Andre Coles over at Football Power did a real nice piece on our Jayhawks. Mainly on how our 2008 Hawks, proved the media's "Terrelle theory" to be wrong. A very good article indeed, you can check it out, right here.

But the site itself is also very interesting. They cover high school football, all around the nation, and they do it very well, check them out. They also cover softball, baseball and even lacrosse.

I've added a permanent link to Football Power in our links section, for your convenience.

Did I mention they have Jeannette ranked 3rd, in the state?

Bob Hunter commentary: Boeckman or Pryor? Shouldn't be a tough call
Monday, September 15, 2008 3:10 AM
By Bob Hunter

LOS ANGELES -- With Ohio State's national title hopes on the way to becoming like a vague recollection from a previous life, someone in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum press box Saturday night suggested that it may be time for a quarterback controversy.

Controversy? Really, is that the right word for slipping Terrelle Pryor into the lineup ahead of senior Todd Boeckman and using him on more plays next week against Troy and beyond?
It may make a few people in the Buckeyes locker room uneasy, most notably coach Jim Tressel, but there would be no controversy. Pryor, an all-world talent, showed Saturday night against USC that he is ready, maybe not to run all of the plays Boeckman does, or to read defenses the way Boeckman does, or to hang with the upperclassmen the way Boeckman does, but ready to help the Buckeyes regain some of their lost national respect.
This isn't even a tough call. In three huge games in the past three seasons, national championship games with Florida and LSU and Saturday night's game with the No. 1-ranked Trojans, the Buckeyes have looked like a team that is way, way out of its league.
Opponents in all of those games appeared more talented, not at every position certainly, but at enough to make a huge difference. Tressel has at least one clear option at his disposal to counter this. Pryor helps close the talent gap.
OK, the Buckeyes shouldn't need to close the gap Saturday against Troy -- if they do, their troubles are much, much more serious than anyone knows -- or even against the rest of the Big Ten. Dominance of football weaklings is responsible for putting them in this awkward position in the first place. It's what gave poll voters the idea that OSU was better than Florida, on par with LSU and maybe even ready to atone for those embarrassing losses against USC.
But for the Buckeyes to again to excel on the national stage, they need to excel against the top teams from other conferences. The next chance to do that will come at the end of the season, be it in the Rose Bowl, the Capital One Bowl, the Outback Bowl or somewhere else, and the sooner Tressel gives Pryor the bulk of the snaps, the more experience he gets and the better chance they have to do that.
By most accounts, Pryor was the nation's top prep recruit last spring. He is a player with uncanny talent, a big, strong kid who finds a way to glide through defenders and also seems to throw a nice ball.
Boeckman is a good player. He's experienced and has proved that he is good enough to excel against the Minnesotas and Northwesterns of the world. But compared to Pryor, Boeckman has the maneuverability of a dump truck. That's not a serious indictment of him; the same could be said of most of the nation's starting quarterbacks. But the question is, what good does Pryor's speed and fluidity do on the OSU sideline, especially when a porous offensive line is putting Boeckman's life in jeopardy on almost every play.
Why an experienced offensive line is having so many problems is debatable, but it is clear there are problems. An OSU offense that was supposed to be explosive has gained only 460 yards the past two weeks, and poor protection has been a big part of that. Is it scheme? Motivation? Coaching? Talent? Hard to say, but something is clearly wrong there.
OSU brought in several top freshman offensive linemen -- Mike Adams, J.B. Shugarts and Mike Brewster all were much hyped coming in -- and it may time to let them try to share more of the load up front; ultimately, closing the talent gap is obviously going to require replacing more than one player.
As it is, the line's problems lay at the root of why it may be incumbent to use Pryor more and Boeckman less. If opposing defenders are going to set up like homesteaders in the OSU backfield, escape is the only way to counter that.
Pryor is the team's best escape artist.

Lady Jays lose a close one

2 goals from sophomore Brittany Core of the Geibel Lady Gators, was enough to secure a win against our Lady Jays.

The Geibel sophomore scored late in the first half to give the Gators a 1-0 lead. But 34 sec. into the second half, senior Lana Gamble of Jeannette found the back of the goal to tie it up 1-1, and change the pace of the game. Defensively however, the Lady Jays couldn't stop the attack of the Lady Gators who would score again off this dynamic sophomore, to take the lead 2-1.

Photo's from the game can be seen in the new media site.

The Lady Jays will travel to Mt. Pleasant tomorrow for a 7:00 start

  • Carolyn & Samantha: 5-7, 6-6 and then lost the tie breaker
And then later in the evening, a non-sectional match up in soccer with our Lady Jays and Shady Side Academy, completed my miserable Monday. A very impressive, SSA put up 6 goals in the first half, and defended them very well in the second half, to win 6-0.

Tennis team travels to Southmoreland on Wednesday for a 3:30 start and the soccer team will host Geibel today at 7:00.

New video's added

I've uploaded quite a few video's from all the games this weekend, varsity, JV, and midget games. You can see them all in the new media site.

Were you happy with OSU's results last night?

This was sent in by a true die-hard TP fan. And like him, I also was frustrated with the "2 QB game plan" of Tressel's. Yeah maybe Boeckman is a senior and deserves something I guess, but last night Todd, you were having trouble getting out of your own way, sorry!

Terrelle rushed 5 times for 37yds an average of 7.4 yds per carry, Todd rushed 8 times for 36yds, an average of 3.2yds per carry. I personally think, that if Tressel would have gone with Terrelle and Terrelle only, the outcome of that game would have been way better, maybe not quite a victory, it is still too early, but none the less a way better outcome.

So here's your chance to speak up on this matter:

It's time for us #2 Terrelle Pryor fans to stand up and speak! The Columbus Dispatch has given us the opportunity to voice an important opinion after watching last nights debacle @ USC.

give 'em hell TP!
Jayhawk Tim

This just added 3:16pm today:

The next set of cleat marks on Boeckman’s helmet could be the telltale signs of an overthrow by his understudy, freshman Terrelle Pryor.

There was nothing subtle about the way Pryor moved closer to the day when he takes over the reins of the attack. Alternating plays with Boeckman from the first series, he was the closest thing the Buckeyes had to a bona fide weapon, showing explosion as a runner and precision (5 of 7 for 52 yards) as a passer.

Keeping a watchful eye on things!

At yesterday's Blue Jays, Eagles & Hawks games this fellow below was up behind the stands perched in a tree, and watching the games! I'm not kidding!! The field was behind me, when I took these pictures.

Later, I was told that he is always up there, and just doesn't leave. Now you can look at this any way you want to, but the way I see it, is he is watching over our Hawks...Blue Jays...Eagles...and Jayhawks!

What do you think?

The Mud Bowl

When I was little and it would rain, my moms phone would ring off the hook. It was my buddies calling to let me know that they were trying to get a football game together. There was nothing better than playing football on a muddy field or in this case, someones backyard. My mom hated it, but we absolutely loved it!

Yesterday, the Blue Jays, Eagles & Hawks along with the Wolverines of Woodland Hills, got to play on a very muddy, sloppy field. A lot of fun, huh guys?

Fridays Jayhawk game against South Allegheny, in the pouring rain, help set the stage for yesterday's midget, "mud bowl"

The Blue Jays started it off with a highly exciting game, keeping it close with a final score of 6-2, unfortunately they were the team with the 2. The Eagles couldn't get anything going in the mud, losing by a final of 14-0. But the Hawks on the other hand, found pay dirt, in all that mud!

An explosive Shavonte Craft, scored twice in the game to help give the Hawks a 22-0, blowout of the Wolverines.

The boys will travel to Plum next Saturday, I'm sure with clean uniforms, for a 5:00 start. Photo's from all the games yesterday, can be seen on the new media site. And as soon as I can get them done, I have some video of the games also, so be sure to look for those also.

JV ties it up at SA, photos are uploaded!

Our JV squad put up one of the best games I've ever been to, today at South Allegheny. The final score was a tie 8-8, but it was indeed a thriller.

South Allegheny jumped out to a quick lead with 4:11 left in the 1st qtr. But the Jayhawk defense held them at bay, from that point on. Unfortunately, our offense had a tough time getting going. They actually didn't tie it until the 4th qtr with only 53 secs left on the clock, when De'-De' stepped it up with the TD and the 2pt conversion.

The Hawks recovered a fumble on the pursuing kick off, but it was called back on what I'm told, an inadvertent whistle? To simplify this for you, I personally think these refs were officiating their very first game, EVER. So after the dust settled from that call, the Hawks attempted and were successful with the onside kick, with only 34 secs left in the game. That drive would eventually end with an interception, to end the game.

Photo's from today's JV game and last nights varsity game, can be seen on the new media site!

A minor delay, sorry!

I ran into some unexpected problems with the game photos, it's gonna take me longer than expected to get them uploaded, sorry!

I did get the video of Tom Paulone's first down run uploaded, that same video has the hit that Nate Crawford laid out on the SA defender. you can watch it in the new media site

I'll get the game photos, and some more video's, uploaded after the JV game.

Write up in the Trib

Game write up in the Trib, right here. I'll double check Jordan's KO return yardage

Timing is everything, how bout it Rob?

We have a winner!

Congratulations Rob!

And we also have someone who is probably mad that he didn't put his guess in 2 hours and 27 minutes earlier, sorry Jack!

We also had several 44-0 guesses, you guys are getting better, studying your teams, aren't you?
Look for week 4 on Sunday

Hawks go 3-0, with another shutout!

If the above statement is true, then the Gladiators from South Allegheny, went home very, very hungry tonight! And should look for something else, to have for breakfast!

The Hawks have shutout their first 3 opponents of the season, East Allegheny 43-0, Brownsville 41-0, and tonight South Allegheny 45-0. PF-129 & PA-0 on the season. And where's Terrelle? He's out in California!

Jordan didn't waste no time tonight, returning the opening kick off for a TD from 94 yards out, extra pt after was a miss 6-0 Hawks. Moziah, shortly there after would catch a 6yd toss from Cameron to go ahead 12-0, 2pt conversion failed.

Cameron helped his own cause with an interception, at 5:36 left to play in the 1st qtr. This would result in a 16yd TD run from Mariell to put the Hawks up by 18 and finally the 2pt conversion was a good one, 20-0.

Jordan ran another one in from 6yds out and Cameron was able to split the uprights to give the Hawks a new lead at 27-0.

Dane Vaughan recovered a fumble by SA, which would eventually set up another Mariell McGowan TD, this time from 10yds out. 2pt conversion failed, Hawks on top by Mariell's number, 33-0 (How Ironic is that?)

Jordan punched another 6yd TD run through, to put the Hawks in a commanding lead of 39-0 and Cameron would later run a QB keeper in from 28yds out to insure this victory. Final score - Hawks 45 and the Gladiators of South Allegheny 0.

JV game tomorrow at South Allegheny, 10:00AM.

The Hawks travel to Waynesburg next Friday, for a 7:30PM kick off

Photo's and video, yes video, from the game, coming asap!

LET"S GO HAWKS!!!! Winning streak is now at 19 games and tied with the Jayhawks of 1931 to 1933!

Beaver Falls over Aliquippa

Beaver Falls wins against Aliquippa 27 - 12, at the pit!

Something Interesting:

Here's something very interesting:

The Jayhawk football team will practice today in preparation for South Allegheny on the 7th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

The last time the Jayhawks played South Allegheny was four days after the attacks on Saturday, September 15th of 2001. The game was originally scheduled for Friday night at South Allegheny but it was moved to Saturday because of Friday's National Day of Mourning.

Here we are 7 years later and its time to play the Gladiators again. Talk about full-circles?!

We Remember!

Lady Jays lose a tough one

If shots on goal could be used as points, our girls would have won by a landslide! However, the WPIAL decided that shots on goal, as entertaining as they are, can't be used as points in a game.

Bummer!

Jessica Soles didn't waste any time, in yesterday's match up against Monesson, finding the back of the goal, at 6 minutes into the game, giving the Lady Jays an early 1-0 lead. It would later prove hard to protect that lead as Monesson got on board to tie it at 1 a piece going into the half mark.

Midway through the 2nd half, a miscommunication between goal keeper, Samantha Linsenbigler and striker Alexis Shirey, was enough of a window for Monesson to sink goal #2 and take the lead.

Although several shots on goal were produced by the Lady Jays late in the half, not one of them got past Monesson's goal keeper. Monesson was able to hold off the Lady Jays attack for a 2-1 final win.

The girls will get a nice long break to recoup, then on Monday the 15th, they'll host Shady Side Academy for a 7:00pm start.

Photo's from the Monesson game can be viewed on the new media site right here.

Tennis team played well, but not well enough!

The girls tennis team lost against GCC yesterday, scoring goes as follows,

Singles:
  • Sarah 1-6, 0-6
  • Alysha 1-6, 1-6
Doubles:
  • Sam & Courtney 0-6, 0-6
  • Caroline & Julia 1-6, 0-6
The girls travel to Mt. Pleasant on Friday, yes on Friday, Photo's from the GCC game can be seen on the new media site here.

New Media Site Opened

It brings me great pleasure, to be able to tell you this. I have just opened the new media site!

As of today, this will now be the official place to go to view all media files. The old site will be blown up, with C-4 explosives, and I'll try to get that on video for you! LOL!, Ok it won't really be blown up, but it will go away forever.

The new site will require a registration, and this registration is very easy to do and best of all, it doesn't cost a thing! If you do not register, you won't be able to view the media files. And there is a lot of them, at last count there was 94 different files that I uploaded and I still have another 60 or so to upload. Hey I'm a 1-man show here!

So check it out right here, and I'll be changing the Media tab on this page so it will direct you to the new site as well.

Hen House Picks - Week 3

Ok kids, last week the Hen's picks went 5 for 5. If anyone knows which came first, the egg or the hen, she does! You can check out the picks for week 3, over in the Hen House! And below is her choice for game of the week

Game of the Week
: South Allegheny Gladiators (2-0) at Jeannette Jayhawks (2-0)

When: Friday, September 12, 2008 7:30 p.m.

Where: McKee Stadium, Jeannette

Last Week: South Allegheny edged Waynesburg, 9-6. Jeannette shutout Brownsville, 41-0.

Last Meeting: These two haven’t met since 2001. The result: Jeannette 24-6.

Noteworthy: Jeannette and South Allegheny are part of a three-way tie for first place in the Interstate Conference. The Gladiators recorded their first win of the season in Week 1 against Brownsville, 21-7. South Allegheny’s early season success can be attributed to the new leadership at the Head Coach position. Legendary Duquesne coach Pat Monroe took over the Gladiators this year. Jeannette currently owns the longest winning streak in the WPIAL at 18 games. The Jayhawks have outscored their first two opponents 84-0.

Winner: Jeannette

P-G's Varsity Video - Week 3

Soccer team gets a much needed win

After losing on Monday against St. Joes and Saturday against Greensburg Salem, determined goals from Kirstie, Alexis and Lauren provided enough, for a 3-1 win over Valley tonight at McKee Stadium.

The girls go to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference. Tomorrow the team will host Monesson for a 7:00 start.

Game of The Week

Soccer & Tennis lose big

Tough losses yesterday from the Soccer and Tennis teams. The soccer team fell to St. Joes 6-1. the only goal coming from the foot of Kirstie Cortazzo.

The tennis team also fell to Derry. 0-6,0-6 in a singles match, 1-6,0-6 in another singles and 3-6,1-6 in a doubles match. Other scores were not available, at this time.

The soccer team host Valley today at 7:00pm and the tennis team hits the courts again today also hosting Southmoreland for a 3:45 start.

Better luck today girls!

Longest Winning Streak?

I just wanted to bring something to your attention, before you go walking around with your Jayhawk chest all pumped out about this winning streak the boys are currently on.

I was in John Troglio's office today, picking up my sideline pass,(thank you John), and he brought to my attention that this isn't the longest winning streak by a Jayhawk team. The current Jayhawks are at an 18 game winning streak but the longest winning streak of a Jayhawk team, is actually in a three way tie.

The longest winning streak(s) came from the Jayhawks of 1935 to 1937, the Jayhawks of 1971 to 1972 and the Jayhawks of 1983 to 1984 and they are all in a 3 way tie at 21 games straight without a loss.

Now, if our boys win against South Allegheny, they'll tie the Jayhawks of 1931 to 1933 at a 19 game winning streak. Pretty impressive, huh? 1931-1933 folks, I wasn't conceived until 31 years after that record was set!

So now your asking yourself, what and the heck does this all mean? Right?

Well we've not only proved that we're a great team without Terrelle, (no offense TP), but now we're presented with an opportunity to leave a mark in the Jayhawk history books, for current and future Jayhawk's to be proud of.

For you young guys, this doesn't seem like much right now, but in years to come, you will look back and reminisce about the 2008 Jeannette Jayhawks, mark my words!

New Media site coming soon!

If you click on an image or a video and get a dead link, don't worry. I am currently in the process of moving the media to a new site. Some items will still work, but others may not. So have patience and bare with me. I'm hoping to have it all done before Friday.

The new site will require a registration to view media, sorry that's the way it had to be done. But it's quick and painless, and still free! The new site will be better organized, and easier to find what your looking for, plus eventually I'll be adding downloads and the option for you to purchase game DVD's . And you will even be able to comment at each media item's page if you like.

No more going to flickr.com, I'll be bringing flickr.com directly to you!

Your gonna like it, I guarantee it!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

Yesterday was indeed a very busy day. First off I woke up kind of early but tired from Fridays game in Brownsville, you know, it's kind of like a drunken hangover except with football instead of alcohol.

But I didn't let that stop me from getting my day started. At 10:00am the JV squad hosted Kittanning for the first of what we hope to be many JV games on the season. The final there was 30-14. You can check out Joel's shoe string TD saving tackle video here or below if you already haven't.And photos from that game can be seen right here.

And then it was soccer's turn. Our Lady Jays hosted Greensburg Salem for a non conference game at 1:00pm. Unfortunately, things didn't go so well there. Greensburg Salem shutout our girls by a score of 7-0. It took G.S. over 3/4 of the first half to figure out our goal keeper, Samantha Linsenbigler. You were great today Sam!, don't let a couple of goals throw you off for your next game!

You can click on image above to view photos from the soccer match.

And then the spotlight went to the Blue Jays, Eagles & Hawks who hosted Franklin to finish off the day.
  • Blue Jays won by a final of 14-0 against the Cubs of Franklin
  • Eagles I'm told lost by a final just the same, 14-0
  • And I'm real sorry but I wasn't able to get a final for the Hawks, they were however leading 20-0 when I lost contact with my contact, sorry! Anybody know the final? I'm a crappy reporter, huh? LOL!
I was unable to stay for all games, so the photos are only of the Blue Jays & Cubs and the first couple are from the 5th quarter kids. Click on photo below to see them all.

All I can say is, Thank GOD it's Sunday!! I'm watching the Steelers today, and that's all I'm doing!!!

Shoe string TD saving tackle

Ok kids as promised, here's the video of Joel Macias with the shoe string TD saving tackle against Kittanning in todays JV game. You got to love this kid!!

JV wins first game

The Jayhawk JV squad pulled out a win today at home against Kittanning, 30-14. TD's from all 3 QB's Paulone, Shrum and Cox in combination with Fatman, Fulton and Pecoraro, delivered a very exciting game.

Photo's and video (shoe string TD saving tackle from Joel Macias), wait till you see that, will be available tomorrow, sorry busy day today!

More Video!

Jayhawks vs Brownsville Photos

WE HAVE A WINNER!!

WE HAVE A FIRST EVER WINNER OF A JAYHAWK BLOG T-SHIRT!!

Congratulations to Larry Bourquin!

Look for Week 3 to start on Sunday!

Kittanning to visit JV squad!

I'm told that the Brownsville Falcon JV squad had enough of the Jayhawks for a weekend, and decided to cancel the JV game for tomorrow, but don't fret, Kittanning said they'll take a crack at us!

10:00am tomorrow, Kittanning will visit McKee Stadium for the first JV game of the season, Thanks Kittanning!

Hawks win! 41-0

Hawks win big again, blanking Brownsville 41-0, and extending the winning streak to 18 games.

It was the James Derry Extravaganza tonight!, James got the ball rolling with a 9yd TD run, and Dane with the 2 point conversion, gave the Hawks a 8-0 lead.

Brian Weightman caught a beautiful pass from Cameron, in the back of the endzone to extend the Hawks lead to 14, and what looked like a botched snap or hold for the extra point turned out to be an amazing pass by Tom Paulone and a fantastic catch in the corner of the endzone by James Derry, for the 2 point conversion and a 16-0 lead.

And "James on the spot again", caught an int. and ran it in from 48 yds out to extend the lead to 22-0. Two point conversion failed.

And for the longest time, my 4 favorite words coming out of the announcers booth were, "Terrelle with the keeper". My 4 favorite words NOW are, "Jordan with the keeper!" Jordan ran one in from 19yds out, and Cameron split the uprights to add to the lead, 29-0.

Could those two be the new Dynamic Duo?, cause shortly after that play Jordan caught a pass from Cameron at 11yds out for another Jayhawk TD, 35-0. Extra point was no good.

And last but not least, Mariell busted one out for a 25yd TD to put the icing on the cake and give the Hawks a 41-0 final score!

Jayhawks will host South Allegheny next Friday for a 7:30 start

Let's go Hawks!!! 18 games straight!

Photos to follow soon!

Chick's Picks - Week 2

High School Sports Participation Numbers

Here's an interesting stat I came across. For the 19th consecutive year, the number of student participants in high school athletics increased in 2007-08, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Participation for the 2007-08 school year set an all-time high of 7,429,381. Pennsylvania alone had 286,992 participants.

The Hen House Picks

The Hen has "laid" her Interstate Conference picks for week 2, over in the Hen House on the right. She can't very well pop them out in front of you, that wouldn't be proper! Besides, that's why they have a hen house!

She has decided to reveal her choice for featured game of the week to you though, and you can check that out below. And other featured games of the week, every Thursday, right here. Along with her Interstate conference picks, over in the Hen House.

And if you don't agree with her picks, be kind to her! Have you ever laid an egg? I think not!

Feature Game: McGuffey Highlanders (1-0) at Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions (1-0)
When: Friday, September 5, 2008, 7:00pm
Where: Greensburg Central Catholic
Last week: Greensburg Central Catholic defeated Charleroi, 34-0; McGuffey defeated Mount Pleasant, 28-0.
Last year: McGuffey defeated Greensburg Central Catholic, 27-20, in Week 7. The loss was the Centurions’ first of the season.
Noteworthy: McGuffey shutout Mount Pleasant last week, 28-0. This is Mount Pleasant’s first year in Class AA, after dropping from Class AAA. This marks the second consecutive year the Highlanders will travel to Greensburg to take on the Centurions.

1 Goal, and some "serious" defense, gives soccer team a season opening win

Kirstie Cortazzo scored the only goal necessary, early in the 1st half, to give the Lady Jays, a 1-0 win over visiting East Allegheny, and to start the 2008 soccer season, at 1-0.

But it wasn't Kirstie's goal alone that won the game. It was a combination of the outstanding performance from goal keeper, Samantha Linsenbigler to record the shutout and the smart "heads up" playing from Renee Reitz, who spotted a potential disaster with Samantha trapped away from the goalmouth, and then reacting swiftly, to protected the 1-0 lead with only 3 mins. left on the clock.

Save of the game, goes to Renee Reitz, hands down!

The girls will host AAA - Greensburg Salem in a non-league match up, on Saturday at 1:00PM. Photo's from the EA game can be seen by clicking below.

Jayhawks, Longest Winning Streak in Pa.
