Big Time, Big Stage!!

Terrelle will be playing on the biggest stage of his career, so far anyway! The "Hawksroost" informed me of this article over at rivals.com. And you can read it for yourselves, right here. A very good article indeed! I found it as a little more assurance that Terrelle will do just fine when the "Big Curtain" opens up!

Let's Get Fired Up!, And Stay Fired Up!!

State Title Pregame Fired Up:

And State Title Postgame Fired Up:

I Love Cartoons!

This is from the cartoonist for the Tribune review, Bish.

Nice Top 10 List

I came across this list of the top 10 recruits in the nation, of course Terrelle is #1 but each player has a little video attached to them showing their individual talents. Definitely worth a look! There are some talented athletes out there!

Some Site Changes!

Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to update you on some changes at the site here. First off, I added a calendar on the right side for easier viewing of the schedules and to perhaps help you plan a little better. Now you don't have any reason for not going to see the Lady Jays play!!!

Second is a pretty cool basketball game on the right side also, why not have a little fun while your here?! If it ask you to install anything when you go to play it, just install it, it is the Adobe Shockwave player and is required to play the game. It won't hurt your computer in anyway.

And last is a chat box or (what I like, Hawk Talk) for everyone to talk to each other while your here. I recommend signing up for various reasons, it isn't necessary but it will enable you to create a cool profile and upload a picture you may want to use to identify yourself with. Please no nudity!!! I'll only delete it!!

Thanks and I hope you enjoy the new features!,
Dave

Two More Standouts Get Post Season Action

The US Army All-American Bowl Game featuring Terrelle isn't the only big event on the 5th of Jan. Two more standouts from our Hawks are traveling south to Orlando, Fla. to participate in the Under Armour All-American High School Football Game.

Mike Matt and Coach Reitz will make the journey south, but when they arrive they'll be on opposite sides, Mike is the fullback for the Silver Team and Coach Reitz will lend his talent to the Red Team.

You can view a complete schedule of events for the week here. And watch the skills challenge on ESPN 2 on Jan 4th at 7:00 PM. You can check out the coaching staffs here. And view the team rosters here.

The game will air on ABC on Jan. 5th at 2:00 PM. I wouldn't wanna miss this one either!!!

Hawks go 1 for 3 down in NC

This just in from Colin @ The Post Gazette:
Jeannette loses another in North Carolina. Miller Grove (GA.) handed the Hawks their second loss of the tournament 76 - 65. Terrelle & Shaw both had 17 points and Jordan had 14.
Perhaps the trip to NC wasn't the best idea for the team, especially coming right out of a long football season. But hey, I'm not a coach and I really wouldn't know if they were ready for that! I'm just an opinionated fan!
Shake it off Hawks! We got some time to recoup and prepare for Apollo Ridge on the 4th.

Lady Jays drop one

Lady Jays lose championship game against Beth Center 55-33.
Added 12:57 PM:
I'm told the Lady Jays had a little help in losing this one from the refs! Shooting apparently was off the mark and the rebounds simply flew south, for the winter, or at least this game.
Total combined rebounds 31, Kayla only had 9 points and Shanae only shot in 7, the rest of the girls were 4 points or under, a piece, for the entire game. To me that would indeed make it hard to win.
Let's shake that one off Lady Jays and get ready for East Allegheny on the 3rd. Sometimes you have to lose to discover and realize your weak points. And from watching you play, I'm sure you'll rebound just fine, from the loss and in the game!!

US Army All American Bowl Preview

The US Army All American Bowl is just around the corner. Actually next Sat. Jan. 5th, at noon on NBC. Here's a scout.com preview of the Eastern Offense. And you can preview all the players and what they bring to the table right here.

The Hawks will meet Miller Grove (GA.) in the Bojangles Tournament today at 2:30 PM. Then Terrelle will have to focus on football, yet again. I can't wait to see how him and Jonathan Baldwin will do together, and I know you all were waiting for this too!! Promises to be very exciting.

You can see and read more on the All American Bowl Game right here.

Jayhawks win one, down south!

Hawks go 1 for 2 in NC with a win against Erwin, Ala. 76-70 in an overtime shootout.

No B-Ball for Terrelle, in college!

Terrelle admits he's not planning on playing basketball in college. Read the article here.

Post Gazette All Conference Team

The Post Gazette's All Conference Team from the Interstate conference, includes 8 Jayhawks. Big C, Terrelle, Jordan, Jason, Montel, Adam, Mike, & Kenny. You can see who made the teams from all the conferences right here.

New Years Traditions and Resolution!

In Scotland, the New Year is called Hogmanay. In the villages of Scotland, barrels of tar are set afire and then rolled down the streets. This ritual symbolizes that the old year is burned up and the new one is allowed to enter.
New Year's Day is also the Festival of Saint Basil in Greece. Children leave their shoes by the fireside on New Year's Day with the hope that Saint Basil, who was famous for his kindness, will come and fill their shoes with gifts.

On New Year's Day in Japan, everyone gets dressed in their new clothes and homes are decorated with pine branches and bamboo--symbols of long life.

What do we do in the good ole USA?, we get drunk!!

I won't, I haven't had a drink in 8 years or so! So what I'll do is stay at home with the family watch the ball drop, and enjoy the traditional midnight pork and sauerkraut, and then go outside and hold my wallet open while going in circles saying repeatedly, money, money, money. (old wives tale, supposed to bring you more money in the new year) Hasn't worked ever since I started doing it!!! And I don't know why I do it!!

So what's your Traditions, and resolution for the big night? We would love to hear them!!

Terrelle, Jason, Adam, Jordan, and all the Hawks, what are yours? Lady Jays, let's hear them!

The Lady Jays Merry Christmas continues!

The Lady Jays beat Carmichaels last night in the Beth Center Christmas Tournament. Final score 66 - 42. Who did the damage?:
  • Kayla had 20 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assist
  • Kirstie added 12 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assist and also had 5 steals
  • Chelsea Sommer even chipped in 8 points
  • Renee put up 5 points and mirrored rebounds with 5 also and had 4 steals
  • Shanae, Samantha B., and Lauren B. each tossed in 4 points a piece. Samantha B. had 4 assist.
  • Shanice, Samantha L., Tanesha finish it off with 2 points a piece and Chana added 3 more from the free throw line.

Lady Jays were 11 for 17 from the free throw line, or 64.7%, nice shooting girls!!

Tonight at 8:00 the girls will face Beth Center (7-4) in the championship game, BC defeated Avella by 1 point, 43-42 to advance to the championship.

Way to go Lady Jays, and good luck tonight!!

Jayhawks lose to South Atlanta

Jeannette loses to South Atlanta,Georgia 96 - 57 in the Bojangles Shootout Tournament, Terrelle gained another 24 points, but 6'-9" junior, Derrick Favors who is also the top junior basketball recruit, for South Atlanta scored 42 points. Jeannette with that loss could potentially have to face the number 1, USA Today ranked team in the nation, that being St. Benedict's, NJ. We'll have to wait & see the outcome of their game. Good Luck Hawks!!

Hot off the press!!

Hot off the press!!! Rivals.com radio interview with Terrelle in North Carolina!!
This is an 8mb file in size, so I posted it for download, and you can get it right here!

Thanks Anthony!!

Christmas Trivia Answers

Here are the correct answers to the Christmas trivia questions:

The modern custom of erecting a Christmas tree can be traced to 16th century Germany.

The Partridge, that is in a pear tree, symbolizes Jesus. People in England were unable to celebrate Christmas from 1558 to 1829. During this period, ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ was written.

The best all-time selling Christmas song is of course "White Christmas" by Irving Berlin and was written in 1942.

And if you received every gift in the "Twelve Days of Christmas" song, you'd end up with 364 gifts, WOW!! Every day you'd receive a Partridge in a pear tree for a total of 12, for 11 days you'd receive 2 turtle doves for a total of 22 doves. for 10 days you'd receive 3 french hens for a total of 30 hens, see the pattern?

Did I stump you?
Merry Christmas!!!

Terrelle is at it again!

Terrelle has been named USA Today's Prep Offensive Player of The Year

SAM 107.1 Tribute

Our friends over at SAM FM 107.1 did a very nice tribute to the Hawks for their accomplishments in the State Title game. And you can download and listen to that audio piece. The song used couldn't be more appropriate, "Taking care of business" by BTO.

Can-Can Victory Dance?

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Mine was just fine, naturally spent too much money, but we do that every year, so you learn to adjust!
During the course of the holiday, I received a email directing me to a site that had video of a couple of our Hawks doing a victory can-can dance, in celebration of the State Title, well here, you guys check it out for yourselves:

Can-Can Victory Dance!

Merry Christmas

Hey Kids, want to find out where Santa is right now?
Oh, I know you do!
Then Track Santa Here and ask mom or dad to help you find where Santa is!
It's easy Mom & Dad!!

Something for the kiddies!!

I believe we all know that Santa is a Jayhawk fan, correct? But did you know you can email Santa, kids? It's true. Santa has a new way to contact him to let him know what you want for Christmas. The original way is great, but this way is a lot faster.
Mom or Dad, can help you email Santa by clicking here!
Merry Christmas!!

Terrific 3, part of the Terrific 25!!

Jason, Jordan and Terrelle were selected as part of the Tribune Reviews Terrific 25. This is the Tribs 2007 version of the annual all-star team. You can read about that and the other remarkable players who were selected, right here. Congratulations to all the players selected!!

Player of the Year

The Tribune Review has chosen Terrelle as their player of the year! You can view that right here.

This year alone, Terrelle rushed for 1,901 yards and 33 touchdowns. He has completed 85 of 124 pass attempts for 1,790 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also has 2 WPIAL Championship Titles, and for the first time in Jeannette High School history, a PIAA State Championship Title!

Terrelle has also accomplished what would seem impossible for some, he was the first player in WPIAL history to achieve more than 4,000 yards in each rushing and passing.

A phenomenal football year? High School football career? Person, in general? .... Absolutely my friends!! And anybody living in Jeannette can tell you something special, that they have experienced with Terrelle, on or off the field! He is just that nice of a guy! And enjoyable to be around.

And this basketball season, Terrelle has already surpassed Mike Dent for the all time points scored record in Jeannette history. And is well on his way to leaving an even bigger mark in basketball.

Player of the year? No Doubt About It!!! Not only has Terrelle left his mark in Jeannette Sports, but has also left a mark in the hearts of us all, living in Jeannette.

To say we're going to miss him, would indeed be an understatement!! Thanks for the memorable performance and the many, many other memories you've provided for us all, Terrelle!!

Medal Ceremony for The Hawks

I recently was talking to a little birdie,(lots of birdies here in Jayhawk land), who has informed me of a Medal Ceremony for the Jayhawks. This is to honor the Hawks for their fabulous outstanding season, by presenting the following Medals to them, National, State - PIAA, WPIAL District 7, and Interstate Conference Football Champions on Thursday, January 17, 2008. The time for this event has not been determined, but should be in the evening hours, I'm told. It will be held at the High School.
Stay tuned, as I'm sure there will be more to follow.

Hawks lose 83-63!

Hawks move to 2-1 with the loss to Beaver Falls today. Final score 83-63. Terrelle was able to pound out 29 points, but it just wasn't enough to throw off the Beaver Falls attack.

Prodigious indeed!

Add 24 more points for Terrelle, give him a triple-double, toss in 11 rebounds and add 10 assist. and might as well give him the all-time points scored in Jeannette history, while your there. Why not? Toss in another 14 points from Shaw, stir that a little, and add even 10 more points from Jordan. Shake well.

Whats this recipe?

It's a classic recipe, for a Ford City pounding!! 82 - 39, and that's exactly what the Hawks did!

Terrelle now has 1,721 points, taking the lead for all-time points scored from Mike Dent. Mike held that record with 1,719.

And for all those professional sports reporters who are looking for a new word to describe Terrelle's achievements and abilities to this point, try this one. "Prodigious" Such as: "Terrelle's prodigious performance, combined with the prodigious efforts from the rest of the Hawks, was way too much for Ford City to handle"

Hawks move to (2-0) and face Beaver Falls today at Robert Morris U. Tip -off set for 12:30 PM

Lady Jays fall gracefully!!

If I were a woman, I'd be mad at myself for chewing my darn finger nails off!!! Tonight's Lady Jays game is what you would call a nail biter!!

It started out a little slow, only 8-8 at the end of the 1st qtr. But it didn't take long after that, to slide me to the edge of my seat! The lady Jays found themselves down early in the 2nd qtr. but fought back to tie it with 4:22 left in the half. The girls gave it their all but fell short by a final score of 54-50. The determining factor in that loss? Brentwood from the foul line was, unstoppable. I don't remember their final stat in that, but I do remember a lot more shots going in than missing.

On the good side though, Kayla racked up another 15 points, Renee and her proven dedication, scored 14 points. Kirstie & Samantha B. both added 3. And Chana & Shanice both put up an additional 2 points a piece. But by far, and my star of the game was Lauren Maline. Lauren finished the evening with 11 points and sunk 3-3 pointers!! Nice shooting Lauren!!

Here's just a few of my observations from the stands:
  • It is extremely apparent that refs on the court are as bad as refs on the gridiron!!
  • Coach Vertacnik, Calm down!!!! It was just as exciting watching you, as it was the Lady Jays!! Besides, one technical a season is enough!! I do love your style though!!
  • And yes folks, Kirstie's mom was behind me again!! LOL

The Lady Jays are taking a break, to do this Christmas thing. But they'll be back on the 27 & 28 in the Beth Center Christmas Tournament and then again on the 3rd of Jan. at home against East Allegheny. I'm telling you folks, you got to see it to believe it!! C'mon down for an enjoyable evening!!

An Absolutely Serious Note!!!

I just wanted to let everyone know that every last dollar made on any of the items for sale here, goes directly back into the participating sports program! I'm just the middle man!! In other words: Football sales support Football, Basketball items supports basketball, Band items supports Band. All 100%!!! I'm not telling you not to shop at Wal-Mart, or these other stores, but please consider where that money goes to when you purchase a Jayhawk shirt from Wal-Mart. None of those proceeds help out the program. Not a dime!!! About the only thing that happens there, is Wal-Mart gets even richer off the Fantastic Season the Jayhawks have had. Now how fair does that sound to you? Was Wal-Mart at any of the games?

The Championship apparel, (The Real Stuff) is currently in production and will be available very soon! I was told to inform you, to keep checking back for the order forms and/or the methods for ordering!

I'm waiting for the real deal, cause I'm a TRUE JAYHAWK FAN!!!!!
PS: I'm also told, your gonna love it!!!!

I'll Let the numbers do the talking!!

I know I've been rambling on, how good Our Lady Jays are. But I've received some stats from the first 7 games, and this time, I'll let the numbers do the talking for me!! These numbers tell me 2 different things, one: Coach Vertacnik and Coach Bone know the game of basketball!! You can see it in the players!! And number two: These girls know the game as well, and you can see that, in the coaches.(think about it)

The Lady Jays are 4-3 overall and 2-1 in section. Sounds pretty good so far, huh? Wait it gets even better. The leading scorers after 7 games, for the Ladies are:
  • #23 Kayla Cook with 103 points. 103 folks!!! That's an average that's just shy of 15 points a game. Against Brownsville, Kayla scored 24 points!!, that's what Terrelle got last night, 24 points!!
  • #4 Renee Reitz with 57, yeah that sounds a little low, but on the other hand Renee "Rebound" Reitz leads with rebounds after 7 games at 69 of them. So she's been extremely busy!

Giving just as much effort are:

  • #2 Kirstie Cortazzo with 52 points, #13 Lauren Maline racked up 45, and Samantha Brewer rounds it up with 28 points.

Now just because Renee is the "queen of the boards" with 69 rebounds, doesn't mean that the other girls aren't doing their part as well: Kayla pulled in 43 rebounds, Kirstie pulled in 30, and Lauren got 16 and finishing off the top 5 is Chana with 13 rebounds.

The top 3 in the assist category are Kayla with 23, Kirstie with 17 and Samantha Brewer with 7.

And one of things that amazed me in my life was the ability of a true pocket picker, I can't do it, but these 3 girls can, Kirstie leads with 17 steals, (sneeky), Kayla's on her tail with 14 and Samantha B. has 11. (Note to self) keep an eye on these girls!

So there you go, if those numbers don't tell you the same thing they told me (which was to go and see the Lady Jays play) then shame on you!! You have no idea, what your missing!! The Lady Jays are averaging 51 points a game, they have a free throw percentage of 52.1, and are averaging 33.6 rebounds per game.

Got you wandering about them now?, Yeah I thought so, then go watch the Lady Jays tonight. They'll be hosting Brentwood at the high school at 7:30 PM. I got to go to work at midnight, but I'm still gonna go to the game!

And just for the record: The JV's are 6-1!!

Here we go!!!, The Hawks are 1-0!!!

24 Points, 6 slam dunks, Terrelle Pryor. This is gonna be a very exciting season, to say the least.

Final score was 81 - 50, Freeport goes home empty handed and Terrelle adds to his career points. But as with any team, it takes more than one player to win it. So hold on to your hats: Jordan collected 16 points and Shaw piled up another 15. Kenny Grant scored 10, Cameron and Moziah each tossed in 5 a piece and Lamar, Dane and Greg each added 2 for a team total of 81.

This is by far gonna be a great season, if what we seen tonight is just a taste of what's to come, then kiddies, we are in for a treat. Passing was on the mark, speed was unmatchable and talent was being handed out to the first 100 people in the stands! I mean there was that much of it!! A lucky fan even won an autographed game ball, wow what a night!

Next on the slaughtering table for the Hawks is Ford City (4-5) on Friday Dec. 21. Ford City squeaked by Deer Lakes tonight by a score of 40 - 34. Come on out and enjoy an evening of Hawks basketball, I'm sure you won't go home feeling empty handed! Tip off at 7:30 PM

Thanks for the pictures Walt!! It really helps out!!

Late start?, no problem!!

Tonight the Hawks will host Freeport in "Da Bird Cage". Returning starters for Jeannette are Terrelle, Moziah, Jordan, Shaw and Kenny. With a few other Hawks proving themselves for some playing time. They are, Cameron, Greg, Nick,Dane, Lamar Grant and Brian Weightman.
After tonight's match up with Freeport, the Hawks will host Ford City on the 21st and then it's off to Pittsburgh to battle Beaver Falls, you know, The team we whooped at Heinz field for the WPIAL Championship title!! So I think it would be safe to say that Beaver Falls is out for revenge, and they're going to bring the kitchen sink with them on Saturday.

Tonight's match up tips off at 7:30 and promises to be a great beginning to a late Jayhawk start.

See ya in "Da Bird Cage"

The Greatest Show on Turf!!

The Boys from Ryno strike again!!

Experience of a Lifetime!!!

Have you ever in your life, came to a fork in the road, and naturally took the wrong way? Yeah me too. But even more important, wandered where the other road would have taken you to?

I'm here to tell you, take the other road! Tonight I experienced one of the best basketball games I've ever watched in my entire life, and I'm 43!

And if that don't top it off, it was girls playing it! I had no idea, of the treat I was in for! These girls made me a instant fan! And folks, I'm not saying that to get you to go, I'm telling you to go! You've got to witness this for yourselves!!!!

The Lady Jays were all of that and then some. Tonight was a complete team effort. The girls pulled out what seemed to me, to be an effortless pounding of Brownsville by a score of 64 - 49. Or maybe they just made it look that easy. Kayla (#23), was phenomenal with 24 points! And Shanice (#10), added 16 points. 9 points were scored by Lauren (#13). Kirstie and Renee both added 6 points a piece and Samantha sunk a 3 pointer and added 2 more. But that isn't it, Tatiana and Samantha Linsenbigler combined for 4 more at 2 a piece.

And the speed, passing and out right hustle of these girls was enough to make Terrelle watch in awe! Even Coach Reitz was enjoying the game. A lot of the Hawks were there, enjoying the performance! And I can see why. It was well worth the $3.00 I spent. (Don't tell them though, they'll raise the price.) We'll keep that our little secret.

And you think the Hawk fans are loud and get into the game?, you should see the Lady Jay fans. I had the pleasure of sitting in front of Kirstie's mom, who was none too shy to let the officials know when they messed up! I love that interaction!!

I'm hooked! I can't wait until Thursday, when the Lady Jays host Brentwood who just lost their 2nd game to South Fayette by a score of 42 - 35.

You want to do something that is absolutely a blast of pure fun and excitement? Then go watch the Lady Jays play Thursday the 20th, If you don't walk out of that gym with a smile of satisfaction on your face, win or lose, then there is something very wrong with you!

Thanks for the experience, girls!!!

Postseason Honors for Davonte

Once again Davonte has been awarded even more honors. Will it ever end? (LOL)
Recently he was named to the Scout.com Freshman All-America First Team, & Sporting News Freshman All-America Second Team and last (I think) is Rivals.com All-MAC First Team.

Congratulations Heavy!!!

Let's go "Bird Watching"

I guess we should get you caught up to speed on how the Lady Jays have been doing, so far this season.
They opened up on the road Dec. 3 with Geibel, in what was a offensive slug match, pretty much like the Hawks and Aliquippa game was. Lead changes occurred on almost every possession of the ball, unfortunately our girls ended up on the defensive end losing by 1 point. 61-60 was the final.
Double digit scoring against Geibel, from:

  • Kayla Cook - 14
  • Kirstie Cortazzo - 12
  • Renee Reitz - 10
  • Renee also hauled in 11 rebounds
  • Kirstie had 6 steals
  • and Kayla had 5 assists

But the determining factor in that game was foul shots. Geibel shot 38 and our girls was only able to muster up 17. I can only imagine the following practice was nothing but foul shots!

Next on the schedule for the girls was the home opener Dec. 4 against Mt. Pleasant. Unfortunately they also brought 4 returning starters from their playoff squad of last year. The Lady Jays fell 41 - 50. But it wasn't as bad as it sounds, the Lady Jays were only down 8-10 at the end of the 1st quarter, as a result of showing patience and taking good shots. And they were able to tack on 20 points in the second half. Kayla once again led the Lady Jays with 17 points and Renee ended up with 11 rebounds.

And then section play opened at home Dec. 6 against Ford City. Who was ranked #4 in "AA". But that didn't alter the Lady Jays in any way, shape or form. Even though our girls were down 19 - 2 at one point, they were able to shut that door real quick, taking a 19 - 24 score into the locker room at half. Now, I didn't attend that game, but that sounds like some pretty darn good hustling to me!

And the second half was all Lady Jays, out scoring Ford City 32 -21 and capturing their first section play victory, with a final score of 51 - 45. Way to go girls!!!

  • Kayla led the scoring with 14 points and assisted on 5
  • Lauren Maline scored a big helpful 10 points, but also played extremely well on the defensive side of the ball. Her job description required her to guard Ford City's 6' - 4" center the entire game. At 5' - 9", that would be tough to do. Great job Lauren!
  • Renee (queen of the boards) continued her outstanding rebound stats grabbing another 11.
  • Kirstie added 4 more assist

From there the girls traveled to California, no not out west, just to California, Pa. And pulled in another great victory with a score of 58 - 42. (sorry no stats available). They then traveled to Apollo Ridge on the 10th of Dec. and lost 52 - 30. (sorry no stats again) Apollo Ridge is (7-1) overall and (3-0) at the top of the section only losing to Mars. And the Dec. 13th home game against West Shamokin was PPD.

Tonight at 7:30 PM the Lady Jays face Freeport who is 1-1 in conference and 2-5 overall at Freeport. And back home on the 18th for Brownsville.

C'mon out and support the Lady Jays!! We'll do some "bird watching together"!!

Good Luck Girls!!!

Can he do it?

I know I said how interesting and exciting this basketball season was going to be, but I just received some interesting statistics that represent some possibilities, for Terrelle to REALLY shine this year.

As any Jayhawk basketball "nut" will know, Mike Dent holds the all time points scored in a season record with 1,719 points at Jeannette. And that my friends is pretty impressive!!

Enter: Terrelle Pryor,

Terrelle currently has 1,673 points. That's a mere 46 points behind Mike Dent. Terrelle climbed to this mark by scoring 469 his freshman year, 601 his sophomore year and 603 last year! WOW, you could hold me up to the basket, I'd still miss!!!

But wait there's more, if he can score 327 points his senior year, Terrelle will enter the 2,000 point club! And if he achieves 703 points, (which isn't out of the formula) he will end his high school career as the 5th leading scorer in WPIAL history

With all this excitement, shame on you if you miss a game this season!!
PS: We're still proud of you Mike!!

A "Birds eye point of View" literally

I received a heart felt (I thought) email from Randy Highlands, who pretty much coordinated the whole victory parade for the Hawks (With a whole lot of help). The email I thought, gave a Jayhawks, "birds eye point of view", if you will, on what they seen on the way home from the game, so instead of me chopping it up, I'll post the uncut email for you all to experience what the Hawks did last night!!

Dave,
Thanks again for posting the info about the victory parade. I understand Sam FM 107.1 also plugged it for us. What a great ending to a great day. The Jayhawk FAN-ATICS took over the turnpike both up to the game and back. Then of course there was the game, another for the record books. The ride home was much sweeter than last year! Again the Jayhawk nation flooded the pike and the rest stops along the way. As the escort approached Rt. 130 you could see about 6 cars along the road waiting for the team. The parade continued into Jeannette and down N. 1st. with quite a few folks outside cheering for the boys. As the caravan came across the 2nd St. bridge the entire corner at Clay Ave. had been illuminated by flood lights showcasing a fabulous sign announcing the team's recent accomplishment. Then it was down Clay Ave. where several hundred more had lined the street to cheer for our Hawks. As the parade made it's way up to the McKee school many signs already acknowledged the fact that the Hawks were indeed NUMBER 1 in the state. The huge crowd at the school was the perfect ending to the perfect day, the perfect season and of course the PERFECT JEANNETTE JAYHAWKS. Then to add to the celebration, although those of us from Jeannette already knew, but today at the Steeler game our very own coach Ray Reitz was again for the second year in a row named Coach of The Year, and was presented a plaque during the second quarter of the game. Way to go Ray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wasn't sure where to post this comment so I thought you could pull whatever if any information from here and post it.
Thanks again,
Randy

Double Dribble!!

The time has come to start the switch to basketball, I've already been told about a couple of the Lady J's who currently are outstanding on the court. And will be stand outs in their senior years, I personally can't wait to check them out!

And of course we all know how exciting this season will be for the Hawks, also. Terrelle and company returning to the hardwood this Wed. Dec. 19 with a make-up game against Freeport, should be very interesting.

I'm curious to see how the champs will look on the court with their helmets and pads off, should be a lot lighter and able to move even quicker.

I've also made a few adjustments on the site here, I'm gonna start posting the upcoming games for both teams, the Lady Jays and the Hawks on the right. The polls will continue as usual but more basketball related. I'll try to do highlights from all the games, or at least as much as possible. And provide just as much info about the teams also.

If I were you, I wouldn't miss too many games from either one. Both teams promise to be exciting!

So let's get this ball rolling, Lady Jays are away this Monday Dec. 17 @ Freeport for a 7:30 tip off. The Lady Jays are currently (2-5) but won 2 out of their last 3 games. And the Hawks will host Freeport this Wednesday Dec. 19 at 7:30 also. C'mon out and see how the teams look!! It's funner than you think!!!

See ya in "Da Bird Cage"

Is West Va. out for Terrelle now?

W.Va.'s Rodriguez leaving for Michigan
By Chuck Finder, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

West Virginia native and football coach Rich Rodriguez is leaving for Michigan.

Mr. Rodriguez went into a 1:30 meeting today to tell his Mountaineers that after seven years he's leaving for a Big Ten tradition.

Mr. Rodriguez will have to pay the $4 million of his buyout clause.

Perfect Stats for a Perfect Season!!

I personally can't think of a better way to end this football season, than to go out in style, and make the same statement we've been making the entire season, The Hawks were on a mission since this time last season and they've worked diligently at that mission all this season, and we can all finally now say "Mission Accomplished" Enjoy your "R&R" Hawks, you deserve it!!!

Here's the final stats from the Champions:
  • Final score 49-21
  • Terrelle rushed for 209 yrds on 12 carries
  • Jordan rushed for 128 yrds on 9 carries
  • Toddy 1 carry for 18 yrds
  • Dane carried 2 for 23 yrds
  • James had 3 for 13 yrds
  • Mariell carried the pigskin 3 times for 9 yards
  • Kenny had it 3 for 7 yrds
  • Trent even got a a yard on 1 carry
  • and Fatman you ran the wrong way buddy, minus 3 yards! C'mon over the house, I'll show you on a drawing which way your supposed to run! (LOL)

That's a lot of "Other Weapons", how bout it Dunmore?

  • Terrelle passed only 4 times and executed 3 of them for 83 yards
  • But by far the sweetest pass was from Jordan to Terrelle for only 28 yards and a TD!
  • Jordan also received 2 passes for 37 yrds
  • Kenny caught a big one for 46 yrds

As a whole Team:

  • Jayhawks rushed for 395 yrds on 35 carries that's an average of almost 12 yrds per carry, heck yeah, that's gonna win a game!!
  • 111 total passing yrds
  • only penalized 4 times for 21 yards, Discipline, I knew you could do it!!
  • punt and kick off return yardage, 99 yrds
  • but the biggest one was the time of possession, Dunmore had the ball 30:13 minutes and the Hawks only had it 17:47 minutes. Now that was part of Dunmores game plan, they wanted to keep the ball out of the hands of our offense, and they succeeded. Didn't they?

Scoring, the best part!:

  • Jordan - 58 yard run
  • Terrelle - 2 yard run
  • Jordan - 14 yard pass
  • Jordan - 71 yard punt return (also a record in the state finals history)
  • Terrelle - 28 yard pass from Jordan
  • Terrelle - 49 yard run
  • Terrelle - 41 yard run

And who would have ever guessed that Montel, "The Anchorman" would have got an Interception? I know I would have!!

And how about those lines:

  • Offensive line was unbelievable, we had 395 yards of rushing, you guys couldn't have gotten that many yards, with out something going right in the trenches!! Am I right? I wish I could count the amount of running lanes that were opened up yesterday!! Big C, Jason can you help me with that?
  • Defensive line was also outstanding, Dunmore only got 220 yards rushing on 42 carries, that is an average of a little over 5 yards per carry, you might win the first game of the season with that, but it isn't enough to win a championship game! Like I said before, I'll take speed over power any day of the week!!

What a perfect ending for a perfect season!!! Thanks Hawks, I know I enjoyed the ride!!!

Dave

College Poll

I personally can't pick what college Terrelle will go to, but I'd like to see him pick the right one to fit his needs, athletically and academically!

Here's your thoughts on that also:
  • 208 votes want him to go to Ohio State, I did notice a lot of visits from Ohio on the site.
  • 73 were from West Va, I like West Va. But that might change if Rodriguez pursues the Michigan job. Will Michigan be added to the list?
  • 14 votes were for sunny Florida
  • 102 for Penn State and Joe Pa.
  • Tennessee got 16 votes, which doesn't matter now, cause Tennessee was reported to have been taken off the list.
  • And Oregon got a shocking 37 votes, I thought maybe they would have shot up a little higher, since the announcement.
  • And although Terrelle says Pitt is out, I'm not real sure that they are!

Where ever you go Terrelle, I'm sure you'll excel in what ever you decide to pursue. Good Luck and thanks for the best high school football season I've ever witnessed!!

Ode to the Champions

Ode to the Champions
By Tom Krause

Who are these people -
These doers of deeds,
These dreamers of dreams
Who make us believe?

Who are these people
Who still win the day -
When the odds are against them
And strength fades away?

These people are champions,
For they never give in.
A heart beats within them
That is destined to win.

They follow their dreams
Through the journey seems far,
From the top of a mountain
They reach out to a star.

And when they have touched it -
When their journey is done -
They give to us hope
From the victories they won.

So here's to the champions -
To all their great deeds.
They follow their hearts
And become winners indeed.

This Just In, From Governor Rendell!!

Way to go Vikings!!!

Here's how I viewed it!!!

I started the game out with an uneasy feeling in my stomach. Now I'm sure that was from not eating lunch yet. You know the feeling, your all pumped up for the big game, on the edge of your seat, when your not pacing the living room floor that is. Hearts pounding away, a little sweaty. I even had my dog Pebbles into it, or maybe she was hungry too, I don't know. But either way both of us couldn't eat, at the moment! After all, Kick off was about to begin!!

And 12 seconds into the game, I was feeling a lot better!!!!! The feeling in my stomach had vanished all together. Jordans 58 yard TD run, put my stomach at ease!! I knew at that moment The Hawks wanted this more than me. And I felt a lot of comfort in that, for some reason!

But, here is some of the stand out moments of the game that caught my eye:
  • Dunmore's first mistake was deferring at the coin toss
  • Their second mistake was attempting the onside kick as the first play of the game
  • Jayhawks first drive of the game, Jordan for 58 yrds and a TD
  • Terrelle's 3 yrd TD dive
  • Kenny's big catch and run & Kenny's interception, big big game for Kenny! (didn't he have an int in last years title game?) why,... yes he did!!
  • Terrelle's 3 stiff arms in one play, I love that!! (The background on my computer screen is Terrelle stiff arming Chris Hayden-Martin)
  • Jordan's 15 yrd TD catch and run
  • Jordan's 71 yard punt return (didn't I tell you how electrifying that aspect of Jordan was?) why,... yes I did!!
  • Did you see Terrelle's block on that punt return? How awesome was that?!!!!!!
  • Terrelle's TD catch at the end of the 1st half, WOW!!!, that's all I can think of right now about that!
  • 294 total yards at the end of the 1st half, 111 passing and 183 rushing!!!!!!
  • Jordan's sack in the 3rd qtr.
  • Nice down field blocking by Nick and all the receivers!! That is teamwork at it's finest!!!
  • The speed of our defense!!!!! (insert your feelings here) Holy Smokes, I'm talking fast!!!!!!!
  • Shaw's deflection and Montel's INT. (KEEP THE BALL, MONTEL!!!) That is a memorable moment, one you'll never forget your entire life!! (Did I mention the speed of our defense?) why,... yes I did!! This brings into play my theory on a big powerful offensive line, too slow... I'll take speed over power any day!!!
  • Terrelle's 49 yard TD run
  • And guess who got the rights to invoke the mercy rule for the 15th game this season? John Stapf!! The score at the time of that kick? 42-7 Way to go John, awesome season for you buddy!!!
  • Terrelle's 36 yard TD run to put this baby in the books!!!!!!!
  • And last but not least, the toughness of our defense: Pride is a funny thing, I've never experienced it from so many different aspects of the game before, like I did today!! Montel, Adam and all the boys!! Way to go guys!!!! I love it!!!!!
  • And like I said before, and also Dunmore's 3rd and by far biggest mistake, too many weapons, you can't focus on Terrelle, you'll get burnt everytime, by THE OTHER WEAPONS!!!!!!!

Attn Mike Matt: Hold your head high, you hold it real high!, you were just as big of a part of this team today, as you've always been!!!!!!!!!! You are indeed a champion!!!

PS: When the score was 27-7, I made a bowl of nice warm vegetable soup for myself and also fed Pebbles. We were both feeling pretty good then!!

Jeannette opponent may have violated PIAA rules

HERSHEY -- Dunmore school officials, whose football team meets Jeannette at noon today in the state Class AA championship game, have contacted the PIAA about violations its team may have committed this week when it used college players in practice. PIAA associate executive director Dr. Robert Lombardi said he does not know what penalties or sanctions District 2 officials may impose on Dunmore, but the title game will be played as scheduled at Hersheypark Stadium. Dunmore (14-1) is the District 2 champion.

The violations may relate to Article IX, Section 1 of the PIAA handbook that states college athletes may not participate in an interscholastic practice. Article XII, Section 1 says that PIAA teams may not practice against non-member teams.

Dunmore used football players from Wilkes College and Lackawanna Junior College in an attempt to simulate the speed of the Jeannette team. "

Update on parade times also!

Here's some info I received about an update on the Hawks return trip from Hershey:

Dave,
With the game being moved up an hour and the uncertainty of the weather, obviously the parade will be an hour sooner than anticiapted. That should be about 8:30 or 9:00. However, the team may not stop for dinner afterwards as planned which would bring them home even sooner. We will try our best to get the word out so that as many people can come out and congratulate the hawks as possible. So my suggestion is that everyone who knows a parent of one of the team members try to contact them so that we can track the hawks (much like Santa is tracked). We will do our best to make this as good as possible. Please post this on your great site if you could.
Randy

If you guys want to send me an email with the updated ETA's, I'd be more than happy to post them right here on a regular basis, so everyone can keep up!!
Dave

WPIAL - A, Eagles lose in state finals!

Serra Catholic loses a tough one, but gains a lot of experience!
Awesome season, Eagles! We're all still proud of you!!

Click on image for game results.

I believe this speaks for itself!

Read'm and weap boys!!

The State Title polls were strictly for fun, in no way, shape, or form will they determine the outcome of the games, at least I don't think they will. Anyway here are the results:
  • In A - Serra walked away with it, out of 242 votes they claimed 191 of them or 78%
  • In AAA - Out of 243 votes, TJ also walked away with 199 of them or 81%.
  • In AAAA - P.C.C. had 173 votes out of 248 or 69%
  • And no Dunmore you didn't win, I give you an A for trying like mad though, out of the highest ever amount of votes 646 you were able to muster up 315 or 48% of them but after all, this is a Jayhawk website and they finished off with 331 or 51%.
  • And last but not least 144 of us believe that Terrelle will be the same outstanding Terrelle and 96 believe we are in for the show of a life time. and Dunmore voted 121 times to try and convince us that Terrelle won't be a factor at all, c'mon you guys!!! I put all this info on the site and you didn't do your homework at all, did you? (LOL)

Seriously, Thanks to EVERYONE who voted, even our cross state new rivals!! Your participation is what this site is about! I hope you had as much fun as I did!! Thanks again!!

Let's go WPIAL!

Dunmore get's some help

Dunmore gets bit of help at practice
BY CHAD JENNINGS STAFF WRITER
12/12/2007

The quarterback scrambled left, met a crowd of defenders, then changed course. He sprinted toward the right sideline and was still behind the line of scrimmage, making his way through would-be tacklers, when he found an opening to cut upfield.
Then came a shout from the sideline, a coach’s words stopping the play with a crystal clear message.
“This is what it’s going to look like!”
On Tuesday afternoon, the Dunmore football team found a way to prepare for a college quarterback.
It practiced against a college quarterback.
In preparation for Saturday’s PIAA Class AA title game against Jeannette — or more precisely, in preparation for Jeannette’s Division I recruit Terrelle Pryor — Dunmore practiced against four players from Lackawanna College and another from Wilkes.
“That’s probably one of the best practices we’ve had all year,” linebacker Mike McHale said. “One of the best looks we’ve had all year too, for a D-1, best recruit in the nation.”
Pryor is the first player in the WPIAL to have 4,000 rushing yards and 4,000 passing yards in his career. He’s said to have narrowed his college choices to Ohio State, West Virginia, Florida, Pen n State and Tennessee, with Oregon having an outside shot.
At 6-foot-6, 227 pounds, he’s big, he’s fast and he can throw. And that’s to say nothing of the players who surround Pryor in Jeannette’s spread offense.
To help Dunmore prepare, the Bucks surrounded themselves with college talent.
Lackawanna College quarterback Corey Yates, receivers Keith Carlos and Donald Jones and tight end Corey Medina joined a familiar face from Wilkes: Former Dunmore quarterback Corey Gilroy.
Now a defensive back for the
for the Colonels, Gilroy spent time at receiver Tuesday when all five college players were lined up against the Bucks, but he spent the bulk of the practice as a quarterback.
Playing without pads, he had enough speed and arm to give the Bucks a taste of what it will be like to face Pryor.
“I thought about it over the weekend,” Gilroy said. “I thought, how are they going to get ready for this? I almost called them myself. But if they w anted me, I let them call me, and they did. I’m more than happy they did.”
None of the college players wore pads and there were no actual hits on or from the college players. This was about adjusting to the speed of Jeannette, both in the backfield and from the receivers.
“They have fine athletes there,” Dunmore coach Jack Henzes said during a Tuesday morning conference call with PIAA title game coaches. “I think the speed is the biggest factor that we look at. They’re much faster than most teams we’ve played in our area and I can’t say enough about the fine quarterback they have. There are very few people that have actually tackled him. “He may be the finest player we’ve ever played against.”
Not playing full contact was for everyone’s safety. The Bucks needed to adjust to Jeannette’s speed and not risk injury. Gilroy joked that playing without contact might have protected the college guys as much as the high school players.
“When I was here, Pa t Hart was just a little freshman and we were able to pick on him,” Gilroy said. “Now, if I come running through that line, I’m afraid he’s going to give me a good one.”
Sabia practices
Dunmore lineman Jim Sabia, who missed one game with an injury but returned to play part of last week’s game against Loyalsock, practiced on Tuesday and seems in line to play again Saturday.
“He’s ready to go for us right now,” Henzes said.
Listed at 6-foot-5, 295 pounds, Sabia was an all-region selection as a guard and could help the Bucks on either side of the ball.
Showing respect
During Tuesday morning’s conference call with media from across the state, Jeannette coach Ray Reitz was asked the usual questions about preparing for Saturday’s game.
But he was also asked what it will be like to face Henzes, a coach who, “If there’s a Mount Rushmore in the state, he’s on it,” according to the reporter.
“I have a tremendous amount of respect for hi m,” Reitz said. “Obviously he’s a great coach. I’m just a little guppy compared to him in terms of coaching experience.”
Excited to play
During the coaches conference call, Henzes addressed his team’s need to slow down Jeannette, but he also addressed the impact of a 16-game schedule on high school kids.
“It’s trying, that’s for sure,” Henzes said. “But this time of the year, kids are excited about it. Hopefully they look forward to something like this because this is the chance of a lifetime. They’ll always remember this whether they win or lose.”

Jayhawk Fever!!!

Jayhawk Fever is alive in Jayhawk Nation!!
WTAE Channel 4 News did an article and posted some video on the Hawks!
Check it out right here!!

Attention all Dunmore fans:

First of all I want to thank all of you for visiting our site here! You have helped put the amount of hits on this site over the required amount to attract advertisers for me, in short: you have opened doors for me to make money!!! Thank you for that, I've never had a lot of money, but I'm loaded with pride!!

On the flip side, you have probably noticed that I have started to moderate your comments. This was done to stop your amount of foul mouth trash talking. I love to talk smack just like the next guy, but I also am aware of the amount of children that come here to check out their favorite Jayhawk players, therefore, I watch my mouth while I'm here, out of pure respect!
Obviously you guys lack that!

So, since I am an understanding man,and believe that you were brought up better than that, I'll turn the other cheek!, Just this once. But I have one more thing to say first:

I noticed you guys are here a whole lot, and this would indicate that you either are highly concerned about the team or you really like our site a lot,(which one is it?) and like I said earlier, I don't mind, your welcome here. But I got to thinking about that and decided to check the statistics on your visits, would you care to hear some of them? Good, I thought so too!
  1. The highest clicked on item on this site (recently) was the Jeannette Jayhawks Roster. This tells me 2 things, 1) you are highly concerned about our players and their attributes and 2) maybe you would like to get to know them better.(either way it shows concern) Normally 1 or 2 people will view it and then print it out for several 100 people, and then pass them out at the game. Not view it 593 times!
  2. The 2nd highest clicked on item was, (and I'll combine here) all of the available videos of Terrelle and the other weapons in action! Yeah it's easier to watch film and analyze the players, than to try and study a roster! I agree!! But you guys watched every single video I have posted here, everyone!! 207 clicks on one, 168 on another, 349 on yet another, should I go on? This also tells me some things about you, you are concerned about our team, and you should be! Or you just really like the site, which one is it?
  3. And the third highest clicked on item was of course the comments. Yeah, we all know how much you like to talk foul trashy smack!!

These are actual statistics from the site. I can analyze the stats pretty well! The numbers don't lie here!!

But my big question for you Dunmore fans is this, If your team is that great and powerful, and big and fast and killers and crushers and every other analogy you've given me of them, why have you spent so much of your time on a Jeannette Jayhawks Website? Your just as curious about Terrelle and the other weapons, as the rest of our great nation, aren't you?

Live PIAA Preview Call in show!

Interesting Article

You can check it out right here. As you can clearly see Dunmore, and as I stated below, Pick your poison!!

Pick Your Poison!

Dunmore Bucks, well let's see. They're hungry for a state title. I can tell you that. This will be their first trip to Hershey, since 1989.

The Bucks have that look in their eyes, and I don't mean a buck staring at your headlights, you know the look Hawks, the same one you guys had in your eyes last year. Remember that?

The size of their offensive line is just about or just as big as Aliquippa's was, and they can open some holes up as well for Michael Perry, sophomore running back, 5'-8' 200lbs, who just yesterday had an absolute perfect day rushing for 245 yards on 27 carries against a very good defense in Loyalsock. That's an average of 9 yards per carry. So it would be safe to say they have a little speed as well.

But that same line gave Junior QB Miller Holmes 5'-11" 180lbs., plenty of time to throw the football also. Holmes was 7 for 11 attempts for 107 yards an 2 TD passes. Which makes him a threat on 3rd and 4th downs.

They have several other good players as well, Mark Fortese (SR WR), Kevin Spager (SR TB), Brian Copeland (SO WR at 6'-3"), and Mike McHale who prevented a Lancers TD with an interception yesterday.

And their defense was just as proud of their accomplishments yesterday. They only allowed 17 yards total in the 2nd half. They were very proud, and satisfied, that they were able to contain a 2,000 yrd rusher and a 2,000 yrd passer.

Haven't we been here before? Yeah I believe we have against, a very great Aliquippa team. And we all know the outcome of that game.

The Bucks are proud of what they accomplished yesterday, no doubt about it, but they have never seen an offensive machine like the Hawks! My prediction for Hershey?

Dunmore will make the same mistakes that every other team has against us, they won't know who to keep an eye on the most, Terrelle, Jordan, Mike, James, Marriell, Dane, Greg, Nick, Brian, Moziah, and the many others.

Dunmore, pick your poison!!

Hawks game video

Here's some video of Terrelle and the other weapons from yesterdays game, it's ok but I wish the camera man would have purchased a tripod. It's a little shakey!

Quick Stats from Slippery Rock

WERE GOING TO HERSHEY!!!!!!
Here's some quick stats for ya:
  • 481 total yards for Jeannette
  • 215 total yards for Wilmington
  • 148 yards passing for Jeannette
  • 76 yards passing for Wilmington
  • 333 yards rushing for Jeannette
  • 139 yards rushing for Wilmington
  • Terrelle had 157 rushing yards, and 101 yard interception return for a TD
  • Jordan had 80 yards rushing
  • Defense was outstanding as usual, Jason had a big game, Cameron with some big hits
  • Greg with another nice catch

I would like to mention that there were entirely too many penalties, 9 in all, but most of them were dumb ones, personal files, face mask. C'mon you guys, we got to control that a lot better in Hershey. I know you can, guys!!

Looks like we'll be meeting Dunmore Bucks (14-1) for the title. They beat Loyalsock today 28 - 7.

Sorry I don't have any pictures yet, my brother had a heart attack (he's ok) so I wasn't able to go to the game, but my buddy was supposed to take some for me! And he's still driving home. So look for more to follow!

Almost to Hershey

This poem was in our local paper, The Jeannette Spirit, it was written by Kathie Wolfe. I love this Kathie, well put indeed!
Almost to Hershey
Only one more to go,
Until the big show
We may drive some miles,
but in the end we're all smiles
You see we are Jayhawk proud,
we are quite a large crowd.
We come from near and far,
by bus and truck and by car.
When you see us coming,
just remember one thing:
that Jayhawk football
has more than one king!!

Game Day!!

Well, this is it, win this one and we go to Hershey for the state final!

As always in the playoffs, you can listen online at our game link right here.

Let's Go Hawks!!!!, Let's Go Hawks!!!!

WPIAL Updates

Thomas Jefferson wins - 35-6 - Final
Erie Player Ejected

Serra Catholic wins - 48-21 - Final

Congratulations to both teams!!!

All the results!

WOW, out of 226 votes, 173 believe Jeannette will move on to the state finals, I do too, of course! 53 votes were for Wilmington, thanks for visiting the site you Hounds fans!!

I don't know who or where the Dunmore Bucks are but 77% of us feel they'll beat the Loyalsock Lancers, who I also don't know about!

And 51% of us feel that all the WPIAL teams will advance to the state finals. Serra Catholic though, had 29% of the votes, so they better play like there's no tomorrow! The odds are stacked against them. Let's go Serra Catholic!!! And 17 votes, think that the Jayhawks won't advance, thanks again hounds fans for visiting the site!

And yes, out of 91 votes, 54 of us have artificial trees, I do too! And I really hate those needles, one year after Christmas, I couldn't get the lights to untangle from the needles, so I threw away the tree with the lights on it! No kidding! We also had 3 votes for "waiting on Christmas eve" - this also brought back some memories. That is how my father always did it, the tree went up Christmas eve day, and was decorated that evening, we then would go to midnight mass. Like clockwork!! But it is wonderful memories, that I'll never forget.

And for the 27 votes who didn't realize it even was Christmas, YOU BETTER GET BUSY, YOU ONLY HAVE 17 DAYS LEFT!!!!!!

I personally can't think of a better player to be nominated for this award. Let's face it, Terrelle and the Jayhawks gave us a great 3 years of friday night lights!

Good Luck Terrelle, and we'll be watching you on Jan. 5th!!

Ranked 6th in the east!

Varsity Video - Dec.5th Edition

Gather up the kiddies, and make a bowl of popcorn, cause this weeks edition of Varsity Video has been released! You can check it out right here! If Colin and Mike continue at this pace, you'll start to see their autographs for sale on ebay!!

Wilmington, Jeannette Previews.

I got an email from Steve who suggested these two scouting/preview reports from Penn Live. They are both worth the look.

You can check out Wilmington here. And Jeannette here. The only thing I don't care for is the way everybody keeps saying, Karns City was the only team to hold the Hawks under 40 points. Kenny's touchdown was called back on a penalty,(our own fault), so in all reality the score should have been 42 - 6! It's the little things that bother me!

Thanks for the heads up Steve!!

A few site anouncements

Hello Everyone,

Just want to let everyone in on some changes at the site here. Maybe you already noticed them.

I recently switched the way the photo's are displayed, it is easier for me to add photos to the albums this way. You can click on the green arrow on the photos to start a slideshow or click on the link that pops up on photos to view in a larger display. Very easy for everyone!

Also added some audio clips from the Karns City Game.

I also placed an ad for Sean Reali. Sean is an agent for State Farm Insurance here in Jeannette, and loves football more than I do. Some of you may remember Sean from the Steelers. Give him a call and check his site out, I'm sure he'd love to chat with you about your needs and of course football!

I am also going to carry this site over into Basketball, when it starts,(and I got a lot to learn) you will come to the same site, the address will not change, it will still be jeannettejayhawksfootball.blogspot.com, but you'll start to see basketball articles and pictures. All the other items will remain right here also. However I may need some help - photo's, stories from the games, etc. I will not be able to attend all the games so if anyone who attends could email me info I'd appreciate it. Consider it a team effort!

I also placed another site tracker down at the bottom right, this is just to help me understand some things a little better, nothing major. Check it out it's actually kind of neat.

So, I just wanted you to know what's in store for the site, I love doing this and I'm having a blast at it. But it wouldn't be very much fun, if it wasn't for all of you coming here to check out the Hawks. Thanks again for making this site what it is!!

Dave

Deja' Vu

This seems all too familiar to me. Didn't we play Wilmington last year on the same day Dec. 8th and then advance to the Finals in Hershey on the 15th? I believe we did.

Last year we defeated Wilmington by a score of 28-7, to advance to the state finals in Hershey, Pa. and it was freezing that night, about 20 degrees, I remember it well, but the Hawks weren't cold, they were actually on fire:

  • Jeannette only allowed 64 total yards, and 33 of them were on the ground attack. The reason so low? Montel Walker (a junior) and the rest of the Jayhawk defense!
  • The Greyhounds only ran 9 plays in the 1st half of that game and was only able to gain 11 yards.
  • And their biggest play of the 1st half was a 5 yard run by Chris Burns, and that was all Chris had all night, The Hawks held him to just 5 yards on 7 carries.
  • Jeannette had 429 total yards to Wilmington's 64
  • Terrelle (a junior) had scored 2 TD's and threw for another, he also completed 6 of 14 passes for 163 yards and rushed for 107 yards on 22 carries.
  • Jerry Harris caught a 41 yard pass from Terrelle which set up the first score for Jeannette. Terrelle then ran it in for the score.
  • James had 52 yards and Jordan had 48 yards and a TD and they were sophomores in that game.
  • Davonte had a 69 yard TD pass.
  • The defense was outstanding also Adam, Jerry, Dayton, Davonte all had a big game
  • A sad scary moment was when Jason injured his ankle and had to be removed from the game, but Josh Westfall stood in and was as outstanding on offense as he was on defense.
  • Wilmington didn't get a 1st down until the 2nd half
Now I know that the Wilmington fans are going to read this and say"well that was then, and this is now" or "we've rebuilt this year with a better team" or "our team is more experienced now" And yeah, your probably right they probably are and they should be experienced players, but so are our Hawks! They did all that damage last year as sophomores and juniors and only a handful of seniors, this year they are bigger, faster, better and stronger!!
Deja' Vu?, Yeah....I think so!!

Jayhawk - Karns City Photos

Paul Burdick emailed me with photos that he took at the game on Saturday.

This is just 1 of 163

Paul is a professional photographer for Max Preps Sports and wanted you all to see these photos. They will be posted on Max Preps site on Tuesday but if you can't wait like I couldn't you can check them out at Paul's site!

Thanks Paul!!

Official Rule on "The Mercy Rule"

Taken straight out of the rule book:
35-POINT DIFFERENTIAL AFTER FIRST HALF, RUNNING CLOCK RULE

By PIAA Board of Directors adoption, upon the completion of the first half and when one Team gains a
35-point differential over its opponent, the clock shall be stopped only when an official’s time-out is taken,
a charged time-out is granted, a period ends, or a score occurs.
Thank you smarchit, I was looking for this last night!

Jayhawk Pride Photos Please

I know the fine people of Jeannette aren't shy, c'mon I go to the games also!! I hear you guys. Send in your Jayhawk pride photos to jeannettejayhawksblog@gmail.com
I know your proud of our Hawks, so why not show it?
I did!!!

Ignorance always loses!

Did Karns City self destruct or were the Jayhawks just having their way with them? Well lets see:
Terrelle had 12 carries for 102 yards, and threw for 169 yards on 8 passes. And had 3 TD's, one he ran in and threw for the other 2, he had a sack and an interception.
Stimac (KC) had only 61 yards rushing and only 76 yards passing off 7 throws and 1 TD, but it was against 2nd and 3rd stringers, way to go Stimac!! (And Coach Conto called you a miniture Terrelle)
Before Coach Reitz pulled the starters, KC only had 69 total yards of offense. Yeah Coach Conto, he pulled the starters! Maybe you didn't notice?
Jordan had 4 catches for 81 yards, a TD catch, ran in a TD, and he was in a car accident earlier in the week!
Greg had 2 catches for 73 yards.
Dane had a 6 yard TD catch.
Jayhawks invoked the mercy rule for the 13th time this season, let me repeat that, the 13th time this season!!
Oh!, and I almost forgot the Hawks broke the state record for most points scored in a season with 770 points, do ya wanna know who got point 756, first point over the record of 755? C'mon I wanna tell ya, Okay it was John Stapf, our wonderful kicker. It was his extra point to make it 21 - 0! How about that!? Congratulations John!!
Adam recovered a fumble.
Anthony Deni (a freshman feeling in for Big "C") recovered a fumble!
Kenny had a 14 yard TD run. And a 46 yard TD pass(but we gave that one back, penalty)
Terrelle excelled above his 4,000 yard passing mark with 4,024 yards
Now here is what Coach Conto said in a post game interview:
"He's what was advertised," (Pryor). "I thought we matched up well with them(rest of the team), expect for Pryor. We just didn't tackle him and we allowed him to run around and make plays."
Now from all the stats I just mentioned, it would appear that you didn't match up well to anybody and you left everybody run around and make plays! Can anybody else see this?!! Your only TD came against our 2nd stringers cause you were too ignorant to pull your own starters, and accept defeat. You lost Conto and you went down like the rest of them, just like our sign said, accept it and start working on next year!
And YES, we had our way with you!!!

Game On!!!

Jeannette Jayhawks & Wilmington Greyhounds

Saturday - Dec. 8th at Slippery Rock University

1:00 pm - Kick off

35 - 6 Hawks Win!!!!!

It was a perfect day, drove to Clarion watched the Hawks destroy the Gremlins, drove back home in time for dinner!! Perfect!!

Some points of the game that I noticed, perhaps you'd like to add the one's I might miss:
  1. THAT WAS A TOUCHDOWN NICK!!!!!!!!!!!NO 2 WAYS ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!
  2. Moziah with a big game and big hits, I love that!!!!
  3. John, your field goal percentage is terrible 0-1!!! C'mon work on that buddy!! (lol)
  4. I knew you couldn't keep Jordan out of the game!! Glad to see ya, Jordan!! Big game for him also!
  5. The Jayhawk Nation travels well, don't they?
  6. Could there be a little competition with the N.I.C.E. guys? Or is that feeling just spreading around?
  7. Hawks invoke another mercy game, which brings up a question, Why have the mercy rule if the refs are going to stop the clock anyway? Can somebody answer that for me?
  8. And one final sighting, Karns City was by far the dirtiest playing team I ever actually seen, late hits, etc. and the refs turned their heads the other way, am I lying? You all seen it too! Especially #32 Markus LeVan, he must have been the muscle on the team, Well coach it didn't work, you plan to throw us off our game was terribly planned.
  9. Ok last one, Miniture Terrelle? C'mon coach Conto, be for real!!! NOW, do you know what I was saying in that post?
  10. James and Dane both had a tremendous game also!

Game Day Has Arrived, Let's Go Hawks!!!

Don't Forget Today:
  1. SAM107.1 WGSM Link over at MSAsportsnetwork for the game today for our out of town friends. You know where the links are!!
  2. Get your Jayhawk Championship Apparel!! You know where that link is also!
